SPNHL S44 PLAYERS OF THE WEEK

(Week 5 – Games 31-39)

With the final week of full scheduled games behind us here is a look at the top performers of the week:

xBeanZy- takes home the top prize being this week’s top forward (took him long enough). Beanzy was quiet all season playing minimum games but now he looks to be taking charge in Edmonton again and leading the offense.

Semple19, finally making his bunk ass back to the players of the week list after his big 1st week in Washington, then being traded twice to finally land in Edmonton. It looks like he’s back to his scoring ways though.

Bartlett underperforming AGAIN, this guy needs to give his head a shake and stop letting philmorin run his show.

Zercylol and Zinczy are now on the list again after their trade to Colorado, these guys are making a strong impact there in a tight race for the 4th spot in the West.

A familiar name that is no longer on the list is Hxrdie, taking most of the week off only playing 3 games and allowing Bartlett to catch him in points. I’d like to thank Mr. Hxrdie for allowing the scoring race to become a bit more interesting.

Interesting stats:

Semple, Zercylol shooting at 53.33% each had the hot hands.

FreezeMothasucka with 31PIMs, that’s aggressive.

Zercylol with 106GV in 6 games (17.67GV per game)

New Additions to the list this week are Beanzy, Semple, Zercylol, iZinczyi, Freezemothasucka, Reapz2313

Failed to make it back to this week’s list is Hxrdie, Hughsy, Sniiider, Fluri, twnsPepsi, Wardo.

Ande91- went off this week in Edmonton averaging a 2.2ppg in 6 games and taking home the defensive player of the week with a good +/- and solid GV:TK ratio.

Shepxrd had a strong week in Las Vegas as well, his +/- wasn’t too hot but averaging a 1.1ppg and a +35GV:TK tells me the plus minus stat wasn’t because of his play.

Coffey-Lidstrom had a week as well on the Oilers putting up a 1.8ppg, greasy 6 PIMs though that’s gutless of him.

Interesting stats:

4 oilers made the list this week with Ande91, Coffey, Ustoopid, and Vossy.

An SP legend Thafosix rounds off the top 10 at the bottom with a 1.0ppg.

There is no Colorado, Detroit, Montreal, Washington, Seattle, or Philadelphia defensemen on the list this week.

New additions to the list are: Ande91, xshepxrd, philmorin, Uberpwned, Vossy, and Thafosix.

Failed to make it back to this week’s list are KyleJ83, Iamsmokey, NowYoDead, RandyMarsh2012, Stikky-fingaz, and beantwn_beatdwn.

Now for the goalies, I sorted this week by SV% with a minimum of 3GP for the week and luckily enough was able to make a top 10.

MrlolChico, a newly acquired player for the Sharks takes home this week’s goalie of the week posting a 7-0 record and an 83.33SV%.

Blademuffin going 2-4 with an 80.28% is crazy, come on Seattle you can’t be losing games when this guy is stopping that many shots for you.

Clake goes 8-1 this week with a solid 79.28SV% and a SO. Not too bad for a guy who had a top line in front of him most of his games.

Interesting stats:

SA_Pliskin faced an average of 16.25 shots per game

Sorokinl30l faced an average of 15 shots per game

Brazghostt faced an average of 14.5 shots per game

New additions to the list this week: MrlolChico, Brazghostt, SA_Pliskin, Shock_r, Dustyroads, FxtDino.

Goalies who decided not to play in nets this week: itskustskillz, Wheelchairdevon, Terrance2nice, Pickletickler69, Oldmanjigglynutz, xrichter35.

With only 6 games left in the season I’ll do the list again except I’m just gonna straight up trash on everyone instead. Sick of being nice, I donno why I was this time.

SPNHL Season 44: Weekly Review/Power Rankings – “The Cycle of Life”

By: Dirty-Dietrich & randymarsh2012

So, I’m a few weeks late on this news, but skate. (the fourth installment of the franchise) is going free-to-play? Now, Electronic Arts has successfully launched and supported a few FTP franchises over the past few years, but taking one of their most demanded titles and (reportedly) removing the story mode, one of the features that made people fall in love with the game, and focusing exclusively on online play and collaboration may alienate long time fans of the franchise who begged and pleaded with the game titan to reboot the series. Either that, or it will make them truckloads of money.

So, the trade deadline has passed and we are officially on the way to the SPNHL playoffs! 10 teams have finalized their rosters and are now all in (well, most of them) on making a deep push towards the Stanley Cup. While there were some debatably lopsided deals that occurred over the past week, change was afoot in the league: contenders got stronger, basement dwellers had fire sales, and needs were assessed and addressed. Players packed their bags and filled them with gear, clothes, and aspirations for championship glory.

Considering how well it went last week, my dear friend Randall and I are going to recap the week that was in the SPNHL. We’ll be looking at how teams performed this past week, their overall record on the season, their strengths and weaknesses, their most valuable players (c’mon, Hardie, do the unsung heroes article!), and their key acquisitions at the deadline. Will these reviews drum up some controversy? Perhaps. Are we using these reviews to scout our opponents? Absolutely. Are you ready for some football? Sorry, wrong character.

We’ll be starting with the Eastern conference. Take it away, Randy!

EASTERN CONFERENCE

  1. Detroit Red Wings.

Last Week’s Rank: 1.

Overall Record: 21-6-3.

Weekly Record: 7-1-1 (W3).

Strength: Even Strength hockey.

Weakness: Special Teams.

MVP: Hxrdie, leads league in scoring by 16pts and a huge +76.

Trade Deadline Acquisitions: SelkeTommyGoat, Benji_Frank, SgtVandoos, Ice_uck.

This Detroit team keeps putting up W’s, putting up big scores, and is excelling at even strength hockey this season; the majority of the best +/- players in the league are Red Wing players. Their weakness seems to be on the PP (ranked 5th) and PK (ranked 7th); they need to start capitalizing on more of their PP opportunities, kill off some more of those penalties, and get those special teams back into the top 3 in the league.

Detroit ended up moving their trade bait (Zinczy and Zercy) to Colorado for top C Tommyboii and a strong LD in Benji Frank. This move made sense for both teams considering their predicaments and having Tommy at C should help with the teams PK and PP issues. Expect this team to finish the season on top in the East with a likely matchup against Montreal in the first round.

  1. Toronto Maple Leafs.

Last Week Rank: 2.

Overall Record: 19-8-3.

Weekly Record: 5-4-0 (L1).

Strength: Defense and PK.

Weakness: Offense.

MVP: YoJonsn, leads team in points, games played, best 2-way player.

Trade Deadline Acquisitions: Staleee.

This Leafs team had an up and down week, going 5-4 and losing some games they should have won with 2 losses to Vegas and 1 loss to Seattle. They are still hanging on to the 2nd spot in the East with solid goaltending and solid defense, but they need their forwards to start clicking a bit better; they’re only averaging 2.97 goals per game while the other top teams are averaging 5.26.

The Leafs can’t count on winning with that low of scoring night in and night out; these forwards need to go off this week upfront now that the deadline has passed, they have 15 games to get some chem. I wouldn’t change a thing about their defensive play though, these Leafs get the job done in their own end.

  1. Washington Capitals.

Last Week Rank: 3.

Overall Record: 17-13-0.

Weekly Record: 7-2-0 (L2).

Strength: Offense.

Weakness: Defense.

MVP: Fluri37, leads team with 73pts.

Trade Deadline Acquisitions: Wardo, Druwyy, Kwhiss.

This Washington group went 7-0 to start the week, and then ended up losing the last 2 games of the week to San Jose and Detroit. This team has gotten much stronger by trading for Wardo which gives them a new top line option of Prod – Wardo – Fluri and having 4 solid defencemen in Eggman, Smokey, Druwyy and Dustin with some solid goaltending in goalieman.

These guys are shaping up to be able to complete a deep playoff run. If the availability is there, these guys could climb up and take the 2nd spot in the East from Toronto. This team is no slouch and should make for some very interesting games from now till playoffs.

  1. Montreal Canadiens.

Last Week Rank: 4.

Overall Record: 12-18-0.

Weekly Record: 2-7-0 (L2).

Strength: Offense.

Weakness: Defense, PK.

MVP: Reapz/Cupi, lead team in points.

Trade Deadline Acquisitions: Kidmoney, ImperialBlaze.

The Canadiens went 0-5 to start the week, went on to win the next 2 games, but then had 2 FF L’s at the end of the week to Vegas and Philly which were winnable games for them to try and salvage the week. I think with Philly locking in last place in the league, these guys are just looking to coast into playoffs anyways accepting their 4th place seed. Reapz is looking at the long game here and getting his team ready for playoffs. If we learned anything from the past few seasons with this Montreal team its that they like playing the upset card and they play it well, they took the Stanley cup runners up to 7 games last season and eliminated a cup favorite in 5 games the season before that.

They just need to get this avail straightened out and it would be nice of Jhursi to finally show up for these guys for a game or two. Kidmoney was a solid trade for these guys though to help fill that current void jhursi has left. So we will see how this Habs team looks at playoff time. They still have the secret weapon of Braz in net; if they can figure out how to tighten up in their own end and protect him better these guys could easily start winning more games.

  1. Philadelphia Flyers.

Last Week Rank: 5.

Overall Record: 8-22-0.

Weekly Record: 1-8-0 (W1).

Strength: Grabbing a big FF win.

Weakness: Heart.

MVP: El Rookie, for not having a quitting attitude as well as being their best player.

Trade Deadline Acquisitions: Complexiti, Guesshoo1, EdgeXQ1, JChristie, RedRanger10, Blackfire1, PghFanatic (and probably more, too much to look through)

This team dating back to week 2 had some serious heart issues where majority of players

were not willing to grind out W’s for Cuban which forced the GM to make some serious trades. The trades ended up not working out as well turning this club into a firesale. El Rookie has been crucial in keeping this team from FFing the season and hats off to him for being a champ and a good sport about it all and playing his games. In other news the Flyers grabbed a FF win against Montreal in last game of the week to snap a 19-game losing streak.

WESTERN CONFERENCE

  1. San Jose Sharks.

Last Week Rank: 1.

Overall Record: 27-3-0.

Weekly Record: 9-0-0 (W14).

Strength: Offense (158 goals for, the most in the league).

Weakness: *file not found*.

MVP: Randymarsh2012 (4.4 PPG on offense in 20 GP, 2.1 PPG on defense in 7 GP).

Trade Deadline Acquisitions: John_Dean_16, Mrlolchico13.

These San Jose Sharks may go down as one of the greatest SPNHL teams of all time; they have assembled one of the dangerous forward lines in the league with the addition of John_Dean to Hughsy28- and Bartlett-67, who leads the league in assists with 74. Hughsy could switch with Randymarsh2012, who becomes one of this team’s greatest assets with production on offense and defense, and both players could pair well on the right side with Norris candidate NoScxpe96. Letting go of skillz to pick up Mrlolchico will either be a championship winning or championship losing move, in my opinion. Chico is a great goalie, but skillz was killing it for San Jose. Nontheless, don’t expect anything less than continued dominance from the Sharks.

  1. Edmonton Oilers.

Last Week Rank: 3.

Overall Record: 16-11-3.

Weekly Record: 6-2-1 (W2).

Strength: Offense (104 goals for, 4th most in the league)

Weakness: Penalty Kill (73%, 5th worst in the league).

MVP: XxGrahame_47xX (Just under a 3 GAA, he has a goal!?)

Trade Deadline Acquisitions: Semple19.

So, acquiring my good friend Semple19 gives this team a BANANAS roster, one that I have a difficult time constructing a top 6 out of because there are just too many options. Edmonton got 13 out of 18 points this past week, only losing one game in overtime while having to forfeit the other two. This team has a royal flush when it comes to forwards they could build a line out of: Ande91-, BejimoSzn, Semple19, Sniiiider, and the team’s leading scorer in xBeanzy- (16 goals and 30 assists in 14 games) could all be paired together and punish teams offensively. Meanwhile, uStooPiiD and SomeoneStopMePls are a dynamic offensive defender pairing who compliment this team’s electric offense (Coffey-lidstrom has been quite reliable for this team, but isn’t their nuclear option). Meanwhile, XxGrahame_47xX has been quietly making a case for himself in the Vezina race, winning 14 of his 22 games, a .754 SV%, and a goal! The Oilers came back with a vengeance this week, and look to continue their winning ways.

  1. Vegas Golden Knights.

Last Week Rank: 4.

Overall Record: 10-17-3.

Weekly Record: 4-4-1 (W3).

Strength: Defense & Goaltending Depth (shock, Devon, skillz, Vision, shepxrd, and thafosix are all reliable options).

Weakness: Offense & Powerplay (78 goals for, 3rd last in the league, and a league worst 15.1 powerplay conversion rate).

MVP: ThaFoSix (there from the start, 20 GP, 139 hits!).

Trade Deadline Acquisitions: wheelchairdevon8, Ferdaboiss69, Lxppy–, Itsjustskillzz_, and xshepxrd.

Once again, Vegas did a massive roster overhaul this week, acquiring all of the above mentioned names. Now, before Friday, the team had only gone 1-4-1 throughout the week, but they went undefeated to close out the week (and took care of us a few times). Shock_r continues to play fantasy hockey (well, I guess we all are) and shuffles his lineup on a weekly basis, but has built a solid goaltender rotation in himself, Wheelchairdevon8, and Itsjustskillzz_, the latter still a Vezina frontrunner. Meanwhile, getting xshepxrd probably brought a tear to ThaFoSix’s eyes, who finally got some more consistent defensive help aside from vVxsion. Ferdaboiss69 and Lxppy– were excellent over in San Jose, and will hopefully be able to give Sauc—y and the Golden Knights the offensive boost they are in desperate need of.

  1. Seattle Kraken.

Last Week Rank: 2.

Overall Record: 12-16-2.

Weekly Record: 3-5-1 (L3).

Strength: Heart (Stealing one from Randall here; these guys don’t give up).

Weakness: Offense (79 goals for, 4th last in the league).

MVP: FreezeMothaSucka (24 goals in 22 games for the offensively starved Kraken).

Trade Deadline Acquisitions: Damorien.

I have no idea who Damorien is, but in 5 games for Seattle he was a -5, so he may not be making the greatest impact. With how Seattle has been playing, a big change may not be necessary, but they need to start putting pucks in the net. FreezeMothaSucka and Spelliscy_21 can’t be the only guys burying pucks for them. NowYoDead continues to have a great season on defense, proving the naysayers wrong with 5 goals and 18 assists in 17 games, while Teamrun420 continues to be a stable, reliable option alongside him. iearntofly is keeping the ship afloat, and Blade0Muffin continues to backstop the Kraken; he may need some more goal support and puck control from the Kraken to reduce their goal differential and get back into the positive column this week.

  1. Colorado Avalanche.

Last Week Rank: 5.

Overall Record: 8-19-3.

Weekly Record: 2-6-1 (L4).

Strength: *file not found*.

Weakness: Special Teams (19.6% powerplay conversion rate (2nd last in the league) and 57.1% penalty kill).

MVP: cpenn4204 (his 17 goals lead the team after Thomas’ departure).

Trade Deadline Acquisitions: iZinczyi and zerczylol.

While I believe the trade was fair talent wise, I’m not sure why SA_Pliskin would move SelkeTommygoat and benji_frank_100, but the reward in iZinczyi and zerczylol is quite the bountiful one; they could pair well on a top line with PistolPete7788 (the best forward option I can see that doesn’t have C refused). Meanwhile, the team’s leading scorer in cpenn will need to slot back with Pliskin and give some support to FxtDino- and xRichter35.

Wait, they’re still struggling to get availability, finished last week 0-4, and didn’t get another goalie or defender and solve Pliskin’s identity crisis between being a defender and a goalie? Well, better luck next season! Unless the Zinc and Zerc duo can carry this team into the playoffs, Pliskin better start thinking about October.

So, the dust has settled on the trade deadline, and like we discussed earlier, some teams have gotten significantly better while some have nearly fallen off the planet entirely (sorry Cuban!). We’ve got 15 games left in the schedule, and with rosters finalized, now is the time to figure it out; figure out your top forward line, your starting defense pairing, and your goaltending situation. Then, figure out the type of game that you play: are you a trapping team? A run-and-gun offense team? A cycle team? Get your starting line set, get your game plan set, and get ready for playoffs. Well, all but two teams. Better luck next time!

The Gutless One has done a great job on the Eastern conference these past two weeks, hasn’t he? A big thank you goes out to him once again, and for reminding me that we were doing this thing again (I had a bunch of concerts this past week, it was a lot of fun). Shoutout to him, Cuban1616, and SA_Pliskin over on the SPNHL podcast for all their hard work, kind words, and excellent choice in introduction music. Lastly, shoutout to you for reading this! Yeah you! If you got to the end of this mess, thank you!

Good luck to everybody this upcoming week!

SPNHL S44 PLAYERS OF THE WEEK

(Week 4 – Games 21-30)

After another week of greasy SP hockey here are the players of the week for forwards, defense, and goaltenders.

Forwards: (Sorted by Points)

SP’s leading scorer of the season Mr. ‘I’m a bunk ass piece of shit’ Hxrdie takes home the forward of the week title with 41pts in 9 games. His liney Mr. ‘I’m a chatterbox in the party chat’ Chadkillz takes home 3rd place with 31pts in 8 games.

Coming in at 2nd place is Booby Bartlett and rounding out 4th and 5th is Marsh and Hughsy.

New additions to this week’s top 10 list (in order) are Chadkillz, Hughsy, Sniiider, hypey, fluri, twnsPepsi, and Wardo.

Sniiider had a great 6 games for Edmonton shooting at 50% and putting 14 in the back of the net.

Hypey looks to be back at the C position with hardie and chad again after having an off week playing some defense.

Washington forwards Fluri and Wardo had huge weeks putting up some high ppg numbers.

Pepsi had a great week in Vegas putting up some much-needed points for the Knights. The fact that he likes Pepsi more than Coke deserves an award within itself, Coke is ass.

Players on the list last week that didn’t make it this week are FreezeMothasucka, Zercylol, Staleee, iZinczyi, Lecupidon, Reapz, and Stlblues21.

Defense: (Sorted by Points)

Once again KyleJ leading the way this week and defending his title as top D with another impressive ppg average and to top it off he has a +22 GV/TK ratio leading all defenders in the top 10.

Iamsmokxy making his first appearance in players of the week taking home 2nd place with 4 goals in 5 games.

Noscxpe dropping from #2 last week to #3 this week but still putting up consistent numbers.

NowYoDead also dropping from #3 last week to #4 this week but still putting up great numbers in Seattle, being a big part for the reason they now sit in 3rd in the West.

Sitting at #5 is that gutless Randy prick who looks like he was a forward playing on D being an asshole, shouldn’t even be on the list.

New additions to the list this week are Coffey-Lidstrom, Hughsy28, Stinky-Finagaz and beatwn_beatdown who all put up some solid stats in their limited games this week. Congrats to beantwn for putting up a +21 in only 3 games, guys killing it with the +/- this season for Detroit.

Goalies: (Sorted by Wins)

Wow, can’t believe I’m actually gonna pump this guys fuckin tires but the stats don’t lie this week, Clake putting up a 6-1 record this week for Edmonton and also scoring a goal and getting an assist gives him the goalie of the week title, also managed to snag a shutout along the way.

SgtVandoos who was traded to Detroit at the start of the week is back to being a factor in this league going 4-2 with a respectable 77.11 SV%.

Itsjustskilzz went 4-0 this week with 2 SO but didn’t look very busy only facing 24 shots in 4 contests.

Ol’ Hot Wheels was another guy traded this week who is now in Vegas was the busiest of all goaltenders facing 103 shots and stopping 77 of them for a 3-3 record on a team who managed to climb out of the basement into a playoff position.

Sorokin30 deserves a shoutout on this list even though he is at the bottom, putting up an 82.93 SV% but only a 1-2 record tells me he gave his team a chance to win but they couldn’t put the puck in the back of the net for him.

New additions to the list are Terrance2nice, PickleTickler69 (ass), Oldmanjigglynuts (goat), and richter35.

Richter35 stats are a but skewed here because it lists him for 3 games with a 1-1 record and I know he got lit up in a game against the sharks this week which would’ve sewered his stats aggressively.

Goalies that were on the list last week that didn’t make an appearance this week are Pliskin, JeantheDon, Goalieman, Bufford, and Shockr.

Congrats to Hxrdie, KyleJ, and Clake on being the players of the week for their respective positions.

Stay gutless SP,

RandyMarsh2012

SPNHL Season 44 Players of the Week (Week 3)

Instead of doing the Who’s Hot and Who’s Not article, I had Pliskin give me a spreadsheet that showed everyone stats from the past week. If you aren’t on these lists and you think you should be, that means your GM is an asshole and didn’t put stats in since last games on Friday (doing this on Sunday).

The lists are sorted by points for forwards/defencemen and Wins for goalies. Now let’s see who had a good week of hockey.

Forwards:

Well, it looks like that gutless prick Randymarsh had a good week, obviously had no intentions of passing the puck and every assist was probably a rebound.

Hxrdie also had a good week, played centre for 6 of those 8 games I believe between zercylol and iZinczyi who are ranked 5th and 7th this week.

Bartlett, linemate of Randymarsh, had a solid week as well with a 4.0ppg and only had 1 more giveaway than takeaways+interceptions. Can’t believe he let Randy out-score him though that’s assss on his part.

FreezeMothaSucka also deserves some credit being 4th on this list, dragging Seattle from the grave and helping them climb into a playoff position.

Surprise name on the list is Stlblues21, im not familiar with him but I know he is on Reapz Mtl team, by the looks of those numbers Reapz should be putting that guy up front more often!

Defence:

KyleJ had a huge week for the Red Wings putting up a 2.6ppg in 5 games leading all defenders in points. Showing the SP world he was definitely worth the 4th overall pick in the draft.

NoScxpe also had a great week for the Sharks scoring his first goal of the season on the blueline and putting up 10 helpers, he also had his first fight in a Sharks uniform, but he got beat the fuck up by a Seattle player.

NowYoDead, he was on the cold list last week for Seattle, now he is heating up on D for these guys, putting up 4 goals in 6 games on the point is not a very common thing. Dead is showing Seattle that picking him 10th overall was a good choice.

Special shoutout for Ustoopid as well climbing out of the shit list last week by averaging a 1.4ppg on D and a massive 44 hits which lead all defenseman for the week.

Also, a shoutout to Beeper who just barely made the list but managed to have a 1.3ppg in 3 games on D for a struggling Colorado team and a +6, nice work.

Goalies:

Chadkillz is back between the pipes again after taking a season off and is red hot, going 5-0 with a 1.40GAA and a shutout. Keep an eye on this guy going forward throughout the season cause he’s going to want his Vezina award back.

Blade0Muffin faced more shots than any other goalie this week and is one of the main reasons Seattle crawled back into the playoff picture posting an 85.14SV% and a 2.20GAA and a 4-1 record.

SorokinI30I putting up a big 2 shutouts in 5 games this week with a 3-2 record, great job in there buddy keep it up!

Special shoutout to itsjustskillz, that 7-0 record looks real nice, the SV% is questionable for him but since I’m on his team I know half of the goals scored on him were because of the guys in front of him being tools with the puck and or scoring on their own net lol.

Special shoutout to Bufford and Pliskin as well, both putting up solid SV%’s and winning records after being on the shit list last week. I think Plisk may have started shutting the door so Mr kitty can’t get in to bug him while he plays now.

There you have it for this week, if you weren’t on the list (and should have been) get after your lazy ass GM and tell them to post stats so you can get the recognition you deserve.

Keep it gutless SP,

Randymarsh2012

Who’s Hot and Who’s Not

After 2 weeks (12 games) into the season here’s a breakdown of who is performing up to expectations or exceeding and who is not pulling their weight for each team…

San Jose Sharks:

Hot – Fwd Bartlett—67 (12GP, 40Pts), Staleee-(8GP, 31pts)

                D Wardo_05 (6GP, 12pts)

                G Itsjustskillzz_ (2-0, 83.33SV%)

Not- Fwd Itsjustskillzz (3GP, 5pts)

                D – Randymarsh2012 (6GP, -1.0GV:TK)

Hot – Bartlett has been running this team’s offence so far this season, 2nd in points with the most games played (ass), while Staleee has been the main guy putting the puck in the back of the net for the Sharks Squad. Wardo has been playing some solid defense while maintaining offensive production with a 2.0ppg. In net, itsjustskillzz showing he can be a solid starter for this squad going 2-0 with a 2.0 GAA and 83.33SV%.

Not – Itsjustskillz not quite putting up the offensive numbers he’s hoped for so far this season in 3 games playing with the top line only averaging a 1.7ppg. Randymarsh is sending pizza’s up the middle of the ice on RD having a -1.0GV/TK after 6 games. Who the hell is the GM of this team? and why do they put that dumbass back there? ong

Detroit Red Wings:

Hot – Fwd – Hardiee (9GP,43Pts), Chadkillz134 (9GP,36pts)

                D – Beantwn_Beatddwn (9GP,+27, 3.67GV/TK)

                G- MrlolChico (4-1, 85.92SV%)

Not – Fwd – TwnsPepsi (6GP,11Pts)

                G – Duges39(2-1, 64.52SV%)

Hot – Hardie is leading the league in goals and points this season so far and averaging a 4.8ppg through 9 games (he’s still ass tho). Chadkillz the reigning rocket and art ross winner also off to a hot start with a 4.0ppg and sitting 3rd in the league in points. Special credit also goes to hypeyy for being the C on that line just behind them in points as well. Beantwn is also playing some real solid defense for this squad leading the league in +/- while maintaining a strong GV/TK ratio. Last but not least MrlolChico putting up Vezina numbers through 5 games with a 2.0 GAA and a 85.92SV%.

Not – Twnspepsi looks to be having some trouble clicking on offense with this squad only putting up 1.7ppg in 6 games this season, very unlike him to not have a 2.5ppg or higher so I don’t expect this to last long. Duges39 has a questionable SV% to start his season, I’m not sure if this is on par for his usual playing ability or not but none the less he seems to be struggling in G for the squad.

Toronto Maple Leafs:

Hot – Fwd – BejimoSzn (9GP,31Pts), JCpens22 (7GP,20Pts)

                D – HeroicSaunter (7GP, 31Hits, 6.14GV/TK)

                G – Sorokin (3-1-2, 77.65SV%)

Not – Fwd – Dirty-Dietrich (2GP,1pt)

                G – Bufford80 (2-3, 71.64SV%)

Hot – Bejimo coming off his Calder season, is off to a great start for this squad, putting up strong numbers for this team and leading the way offensively. Jcpens also putting up some good numbers to start this season with a 2.9ppg and staying positive in the GV/TK ratio with a 3.14 which is uncommon for forwards. Heroic Saunter is playing strong defense with a solid 31 hits through 7 games and a 6.14GV/TK ratio. Sorokin a late addition to the roster, is playing some solid G for this squad keeping these guys in games and putting up a solid 77 SV%.

Not – Dirty D had a tough 2 games so far on fwd only putting up a single point, the team will need more from him if they want to continue winning games. Bufford80, although he did record a shutout this season, let up 19 goals in 4 games in the other contests going 1-3, Toronto is going to need more of the shutout Bufford and less of the 4.8GAA Bufford.

Washington Capitals:

Hot – Fwd – Fluri37 (9GP, 35Pts), Semple19 (7GP, 31pts), Prodigytolegend (9GP, 30Pts)

                D – ll-Dustin-ll (5GP, 11pts)

Not – D – Eggman (5gp, 0pts, -2), Iamsmokey (3GP 2pts, -3)

Hot – This forward line is the 2nd hottest in the league right now carrying the offense and leading them to W’s. Semple is a +17 through 7 games which is crazy cause this guy is so ass at the game, always taking penalties n’ shit. Fluri and Prod seem to do better when he’s in the lineup though looking through their stats, so maybe his ass play really brings out the good play in these guys. Dustin is doing great on defense for these guys putting up a 2.2ppg with a +13, looks to be ideal to have Dustin on D while the big 3 are up front.

Not – Eggman and smokey seem to be struggling on the defense side of things being in the minus column on a winning team, could be due to tough match ups and not having the right forwards in front of them, but none the less the boys got to pull their weight back there. I didn’t include goalies in this cause goalieman has seen a lot of rubber over his 8 games in net, so I don’t want to judge his SV% too hard.

Edmonton Oilers:

Hot – Fwd – Beanzy (7GP, 23Pts)

                D – Someonestopmepls (4GP 9Pts)

                G – Clarke (10GP, 78.07SV%)

Not – Fwd – Ande91 (5GP, 8Pts), Ustoopid (4GP, 6Pts)

Hot – Beanzy looks to be carrying the offense on this team putting up 13 more points than the next highest scoring player on the team. Smiiirk (Someonestopmepls) carrying the load on defense with a 2.3ppg in 4 games. Clake is playing all Edmontons games and managing a 2.5GAA which is respectable for the opposing forward talent in the league this season.

Not – Ande and Ustoopid are way better players than 1.6ppg and 1.5ppg. They’ve had a rough first 2 shortened weeks, but I wouldn’t expect that trend to last much longer.

Philadelphia Flyers:

Hot – Fwd – Hughsy (8GP, 26pts), Kidmoney (6GP, 19pts), Pickletickler (8GP, 22pts), Lxppy (2GP, 10pts)

                D – EL_Rookie (5GP, 9pts)

Not – Cuban (8GP, 25PIMs, -8) and WheelchairDevon (3GP 17PIMs, -13)

Hot – These Philly forwards are running the show for this squad up front with multiple contributors with Hughsy(with his small wiener) leading the way with 26pts. Kidmoney also putting the puck in the back of the net with 10 on the season which means he now has 1001 career SP goals on Forward! Congrats Jason! Lxppy with a 5.0ppg in 2 games, need more games for this guy to get a load off Hughsy’s back. Then you have Pickle, sure his stats look good, but he has a brutal -14 which is complete ass, so obviously he’s getting carried, but he’s good at getting carried so congrats Tickler! El_Rookie on D looks to be the only solid/consistent guy they have putting up a 1.8ppg and doesn’t have an aggressive amount of PIMs.

Not – This D core of Cuban and WheelchairDevon is crazzzy with the bad +/- and lots of PIMs. These guys need to clean it up a bit to help their poor G’s and let those forwards heat up more up front. Also, PIckletickler has a god awful league leading -14 on forward, not a defensive bone in the kid.

Montreal Canadiens:

Hot – Fwd – LeCupidon (10GP, 32pts), Reapz (12GP, 32pts), Chief2Step (8GP, 23pts)

                D – CaptCanada (4GP, 5pts +3)

Not – G – JeanTheDon42 (3-3, 61.96SV%)

Hot – LeCupidon and Reaps are back at it trying to carry this team to success with solid offensive numbers to start the season. Chief2Step has been a solid contributing factor as well playing C between these guys and averaging a 2.9ppg. CaptCanada is showing why she is one of the most consistent D with a positive +/- on a losing team and contributing with some assists along the way.

Not – JeanTheDon has had a rough go so far into this season with a 5.83GAA and a 62Sv% which is not the same goalie we have seen in the past in SP. He will need to pull up his socks some if he wants more playing time.

Vegas Golden Knights:

Hot – Fwd – Zercylol (7GP, 15pts)

                D – TuckitTeal (4GP, 5pts) John_Dean16 (2GP 2pts)

Not – Fwd – iZinczyi (3GP, 5pts), Saucy (3GP, 3pts), Nitro_96 (3GP, 5pts)

Hot – Although they aren’t impressive stats, compared to the rest of this Vegas team Zercy seems to be the only one doing anything offensively with 10 more points than the next best player. TuckitTeal, a new player to the league seems to be carrying his weight on D with a 1.25ppg. John Deans stats in his 2 games played looks like he was the only one on the ice doing anything with the puck to try and help this team to success.

Not – Zincy, Saucy, and Nitro are all very good players who are underperforming so far this season for the Knights, they don’t have many games played yet, so one can only expect these guys will turn it around soon.

Colorado Avalanche:

Hot – G – FxtDino (2-0, 85Sv%)

Not – Fwd – Benji-Frank-100 (5GP, 8pts), groweski (4Gp, 1pt), JubJJJJJub (3GP, 2pts)

                D – JubJJJJJub (3GP, -10), Benji-Frank-100 (6GP, 3pts, -3)

                G – Pliskin (2-5, 67.05Sv%)

Hot – FxtDino is the only player on this squad with respectable numbers so far this season. He has put up 2 W’s in both his starts and backed it up with a solid 1.5GAA. Tommy and Cpenn both have decent forward stats but I would not call them hot, they both can do better. Pistolpete is also doing decent offensively from the blueline but his -7 is not a good look when he only has 6pts.

Not – BenjiFrank is having a tough season so far in Colorado, putting up subpar numbers compared to his usual self from past seasons on both defense and offense. Colorado’s rookies groweski and JubJJJJJub are also not living up to their potential on this team, they were expected to contribute more offensively and have not gotten the job done. Pliskin’s 2-5 G record and his 4.1 GAA are telling me his cat is sitting on his lap for most of these games, stop patting your cat Plisk it’s costing you games!

Seattle Kraken:

Hot – Fwd – FreezeMothasucka (5GP, 12pts), Spelliscy_21 (5GP, 10pts)

Not – Fwd – NowYoDead (3GP, -12)

                D – Teamrun420 (7GP, 1pt)

                G – Blade0Muffin (2-7, 68.38Sv%)

Hot – The fact that Freeze and Spells have an even +/- through 5 games tells me they’re doing something right out there for this team. Their ppg aren’t high but they must be backchecking some hard. Got to find some positives for this squad.

Not – NowYoDead has not had much luck up front this season, having 3pts and a -12 in three games is frustrating hockey to say the least. Teamrun420 only having 1 assist through seven games tells me he is having a hard time on the blueline this season. Blademuffin, I don’t believe his stats are all his fault because he is relied on heavily with this team and does not have much support. But I believe he can still be better than he has been playing.

It took me a long ass time to write this up, super gutless. Next time I do something like this it will be more ‘players of the week’ based and not a team breakdown. If your name wasn’t mentioned, it means you’re being a basic bitch out there so time to step it up!

Stay Gutless SP,

SPNHL Power Rankings (Week 1)

I know this article is late, but I tried my hardest to think back to before the season started and how I thought teams looked and kept my comments on that same kind of mindset, so try to keep that in mind when reading lol.

Post-Draft Team Rankings

  1. Detroit
  2. Edmonton
  3. San Jose
  4. Colorado
  5. Washington
  6. Montreal
  7. Philadelphia
  8. Vegas
  9. Toronto
  10. Seattle
  1. Detroit, GM Chad, making an insane number of trades for picks and resigns leading up the draft was some work well done to earn the #1 spot. Trading for Hypeyy while managing to Draft Hardiee and KyleJ83 with the 1st and 4th picks of the draft set him up to have the strongest right side in the league. Sneaking in late picks with MrlolChico and BK_0994 for a goaltending tandem was also a nice touch for a draft which showed a bit of weakness in the goaltending department. This team should finish #1 in the league at the end of the season, and knowing Chad he’ll probably fleece an owner one or two more times before the seasons done making this already strong team even stronger.
  • Edmonton, GM Someonestopmeplease, making the big move to unite the beanzy Ustoopid brothers was very well done, leaving him with the best blueline in the league to start while having a top scoring forward in Bean to carry the offence, very solid foundation. Grabbing Ande91 (Yesc to some people) in the 2nd round was also a clutch pick giving them a familiar face to gel with the trio that’s already there. Grahame47 (Clake) looking like the starter there, the guy can normally make the first save when hes dialed in so also not a bad pick up. With those 5 guys and some of the supporting cast they drafted puts them at 2nd best team heading into the season.
  • San Jose, GM Randy, (this one was a tough call, but I’ll admit I’m slightly biased) starting off the season by taking over the old Winnipeg jets and resigning Bartlett was an easy decision, arguably the best all around player in the league when he isn’t being a troll, and sometimes he still is even when he’s being a troll lol. Grabbing Noscxpe at LD with his first pick and Wardo_05 at RD with his 2nd pick may have had a few people raising some eyebrows but Noscxpe may have been the best LD on the board and Wardo (after kyleJ was taken) was a risky pick but could prove to be one of the better Dmen by the end of the season. Also, the last time Wardo played SP he scored over 100 goals in a season so maybe some of that magic comes with that pick as well. Sneaking in a few goalies with skillz and ice_uck late in the draft was also lucky considering goalies were getting eaten up quick. Another solid blueline with some solid goaltending and having Bart using his backpack skills puts this Sharks team as #3.
  • Colorado, GM SA_Pliskin, resigning Tommyboy and trading for Cpenn4204 made this team look real good heading into the draft, 2 of the top forwards this league has seen over the seasons. Following up by drafting xwillis, Benji frank, and pistolpete has this team looking strong out of the gate. Willis is one of the current top scoring RW’s in LGNHL which makes this team even more threatening with the ability to put Benji and cpenn on D. Pliskin looks like he will be the starting goalie for the squad which is also not a bad look as long as hes actually paying attention to the game and not patting his cat. I almost want to say this team is #3 but nah screw these guys.
  • Washington, GM Eggman, resigning Fluri, drafting prodigytolegend and semple to round off that first line is a nice start, a slight tough look with 2 top LW’s in Semple and prod but these guys are talented enough to make it work. Grabbing xshepxrd as a starting dman was also nice, guy plays a solid two-way game, and then getting goalieman to start in nets was a real nice late pick for these guys, he definitely fell far in this draft which was a blessing to this squad. Lots of depth on the bench in the roster for these guys too so they’ll always have a competitive lineup out there each night.
  • Montreal, GM Reapz, Same old song and dance with this guy grabbing LeCupidon with the resign. Cupi has been shredding nhl on the right side since I can remember so you can never go wrong with that pick. Drafting Jhursi with their 1st pick at C was also very nice to see, I think they will heat up even more with a solid defensive minded talent as well as offensive between them. Then grabbing last season’s Vezina winner Brazghostt was a steal considering the goalie talent in the draft, Reapz teams have always relied on having a goalie who can make the first save and this is the guy they wanted to do it. Rounding off their blueline with a nice mix of Cheif2step, Capt Canada, and ChiefTrout is also a great start, although all these players are good, I feel like the fact that both Chiefs play the D one well but prefer the forward role hurts them a bit which is why I have them in the 6th spot.
  • Philadelphia, GM Cuban, trading away his resign in Cpenn and having the 5th and 7th overall pick was a plan that I think fell apart during the draft. I could be wrong, but I think he thought he would be able to get the John Dean, Hughsy tandem that have won back-to-back cups to start off his squad, but then John Dean got taken earlier than he predicted. Which lead to him drafting a great friend of mine in Freezemothasucka with his 7th overall pick. If Freeze didn’t refuse defence this season I would’ve seen the value in it, but passing up on players like Bejimo, Ande, wardo, or noscope was a bit of a tough look, freeze could’ve easily fallen to round 3 in this draft with only having forward as an option, but he still has value at LW so don’t count these guys out yet. Cuban finished off the draft strong by picking lxppy (who easily could’ve been that #7 pick) and pickletickler and grabbing conn smythe winner Sgt Vandoos for nets. Also, with a solid supporting cast in Rookie, Druwyy and hot wheels this team will be competitive every night. Hughsy will need to start practicing his faceoff skills cause these boys are gonna need him to come up big in Philly, especially with pickletickler out there, guys awful.
  • Vegas, GM DustyGlove22, new GM to the league and didn’t do a bad job in the draft. Resigning top forward in Zinczy was a great start and grabbing john dean with the 3rd overall pick locked up one of the Best C’s in the league this team is looking good, their forwards and depth of forwards looks real nice with zercy, saucy, and nitro. The big issue I see is lack of RW depth considering its refused by most except for zin and john. This top line will be lethal but their average blueline and potentially average goaltending looks like its going to cost them a lot of games this season, but if they manage to get into playoffs this will be a team that could upset anyone.
  • Toronto, GM Dirty-Dietrich, things fell apart a but before the draft for Dirty, had some locker room troubles causing him to move Beanzy (who he recently acquired through trade before the draft) and his resign hypeyy. He lost his 1st overall pick and dropped down to picking in the 8th position. Now having said that he didn’t have a bad draft at all grabbing Yojonsn, Bejimo, KarlssonisGod and Uberpwned on the blueline with Bufford as a starter G. This top line will be tough to play against as well with some good depth in the roster too. The potential lack of C and RW depth is a bit concerning and only having one true LD is tough as well, this team will be juggling lines around a lot and will be battling to get into the playoffs. Although they’re ranked #5 in the East, I am not counting them out.
  1. Seattle, GM iearntofiy, another new GM to the league, his drafting approach and outlook on the draft had most puzzled (myself included) but he went for solid, dependable players to fill out his roster every night. The biggest issue with that is most guys are dependable if their team is good, if the team isn’t good that’s when you’ll run into problems. I hate to say it cause hes a good friend, but NowYoDead was not a 1st round choice in this draft, he easily could’ve slid to the 3rd round before being picked. Also resigning teamrun (although a good solid defenceman) was another tough look when kylej83 was an option for him, could also managed to grab teamrun with a late 2nd or mid-3rd round pick. Getting Kidmoney was their best offensively talented pick in the draft and then also grabbing blademuffin was solid as well, but you can only expect so much out of those guys when you read the names listed above and seeing that talent night in and night out. I don’t expect these guys to win many games and I would be shocked if they managed to get into playoffs with the roster they have.

Now onto the rankings after the first 6 games of the season.

Week 1 Rankings:

  1. San Jose
  2. Detroit
  3. Toronto
  4. Edmonton
  5. Washington
  6. Philadelphia
  7. Montreal
  8. Colorado
  9. Vegas
  10. Seattle

Had to give the #1 spot to my boys the Sharks, being the only undefeated team after 6 games (which isn’t a huge sample size) but should be enough to make them top dogs for now, they have the stats to back it up so far, but we will see what the rest of the season brings.

The most notable jump would be Toronto up to #3 after being ranked #9 to start the season, these guys put their foot in my mouth going 4-1-1 and leading the East. The only reason I didn’t put them ahead of Detroit was because Detroit had a huuugee Tuesday night putting up 23 goals in 3 games.

Biggest drop would go to Colorado, a Forfeit loss and not having great availability to start the season was what most likely caused this, wouldn’t expect them to stay at #8 for too long.

I’m not going to dive too deep into week 1 since it was only 6 games, just wanted to give everyone something to read. Seattle, Vegas figure it out over there, we all know both your wins so far were FF wins.

Keep it gutless out there,

Randymarsh

SP Mock Draft

SP Mock Draft

What’s good SP I’m here for some more media. Made this at 4 AM but it’s better than anyone else’s mock draft so read it and shut up.

Pick 1: Detroit: Lxppy

This pick makes way too much sense. With Chad having nobody on his roster he just needs the best player available and Lxppy is the best player in sp. He will be Chad’s G7 C to carry his ass. Having Lxppy at 4.5 is nuts.

Pick 2:Washington: ProdigyToLegend

For this pick, I just thought of again the best player available. Seeing that Fluri is playing rw I think a good winger with him even though he’s a d man could help them a lot. I may be wrong but I think Fluri is buddies w Prod so I could definitely see this happening.

Pick 3: Vegas: John_dean_16

With almost every team having a lot of roster spots I expect the top end of the draft to be less fit related and just the best player available. The D-man pool is awful so I kind of have to take a forward here and for his cap hit I could see Zinczy taking the wheel and grabbing John dean. Honestly, it would be a great start for their team.

Pick 4:Detroit: xwillis

I would have loved a d man at this spot but most d men suck here so I might as well give them a forward to have a gross top 3. Willis has had a hot start to his lg season and having Chad who isn’t just a goalie anymore and Lxppy could honestly make them front runners out the gate.

Pick 5:Philadelphia: Hughsy28-

Cuban has nobody on his roster and a lot of cap to work with I see him taking hughsy but with no intent to play him. I see Cuban taking him simply so he can get one of his buddy’s teams to overpay for him,(or underpay because sp trades suck) personally if I’m Cuban here I’m taking hughsy just for the trade opportunity.

Pick 6:Montreal: KyleJ83

Reap and Cup generally draft their buddies or draft absolute shit cans, sometimes those both are the same thing but I think Reap isn’t gonna play around and he’s gonna take Kyle. Doing this will set Reap up on defense because Kyle is the only D-man worth a first-round pick. Does this make Reap a championship contender? no.

Pick 7: Philadelphia: Hxrdie-

This pick is perfect because if Cuban takes Hughsy he has another huge trade piece that he can use or if that doesn’t work he has two great forwards to build his G7 around.

Pick 8: Edmonton: Jhursi

Having Smiirk and Ustoopid already is a great start. Even though Smiirk says he’s G only (I don’t buy it) getting Jhursi would be a good start to their G7 and make their team a part of the top end of sp.

Pick 9: San Jose: Karlssonisgod

This pick is Randy going best player available I can definitely see him taking a d man here but this pick just feels too perfect. This is a pure LG stats pick in the draft. Seeing Karlsson is an NHLer will light Randy’s eyes up and there it is he has his G7 forward core. Congrats Randy you have started to build a good team.

Pick 10 Seattle: Kidmon3y

Kidmon3y is a decent player but he shouldn’t go in the first round. I think it will happen because this GM is clearly brain dead and wants to throw away the amazing legacy peacekeeper made for the Kraken…… ya I mean shit pick but on the draft night it’ll probably happen.

Thanks for the read, Tommy boy sucks

Three’s A Crowd

SPNHL Weekly Tournament #1: Finals Preview – “Three’s A Crowd”

Despite some hiccups, the first weekly tournament of the SPNHL was a successful one, bringing about competitive matchups in a new format. With a field of eight teams that all had a chance to progress to the Finals, only three teams remain: Team Brazzers (yeah that’s right) lead by BrazGhostt and Freezemothasucka, Team Toxicity (love you guys) captained by xBeanZy- and hypey-, and Team Mute (suck it Chad) headed by chadkillz134 and Hxrdie-.

With the tournament being double elimination, Team Brazzers and Team Mute have both lost one game, while Team Toxicity remained undefeated throughout their first three games. They have already faced Team Mute before, defeating them 3-2, and defeated Team Saucy (say it like Jim Carrey from “The Mask”) and Team Dean 16 on their way to winning the, well, winner’s bracket. xBeanZy- and hypey- had their team filled out by Semple19, who led the team in goals scored (4) and fell one point short of xBeanZy-’s team leading eight points. With great goaltending provided by shestyy- (a 1.67 GAA and a .878 save percentage through three games) and a formidable defensive duo in Ande91- and Coffey-lidstrom, it’s gonna take a lot to beat this team, nevermind having to win a best of three series to win the tournament.

Team Toxicity has already punched their ticket to the finals, but now Team Brazzers and Team Mute have one more meeting to see who wins the loser’s bracket. FishGoat, Fluri37, and Freezemothasucka are the top three scorers in the tournament, with the former two sharing the lead at 10 points while the latter leads the tournament in goals with 6. marktsib has been a presence on defense for this team, but BrazGhostt is leading by example and killing it between the pipes, only giving up 3 goals all tournament, posting two shutouts, and rocking a 0.75 GAA with a .925 save percentage. With high scoring offense and outstanding goaltending, Team Brazzers has what it takes to give Team Toxicity a run for their money.

Let’s not forget about Team Mute, though. chadkillz134 and Hxrdie- are two dynamic wingers, and with a line anchored by Bartlett–67, they have been able to do wonders in this tournament. Hardie and Chad have both scored four goals through 3 games, while Bart has had 6 helpers to drive this offense to success. ELROOKIE and NowYoDead have been reliable defenders for Team Mute, meanwhile PickleTickler69 brings a 2.67 GAA and a .784 save percentage to this semi-final matchup. While their stats may not jump off the page as much as Team Brazzers’ do, Bart and Hardie’s experience in big games may provide the intangibles that guides this team to the finals and a date with Team Toxicity.

*BREAKING NEWS: chadkillz134 is out, randymarsh2012 is in. How does this happen? Meh, you kids have fun.*

SPNHL Double Elimination Bracket Tournament

Hey everybody!

We are looking to start up a tournament in SP during the offseason. If things go well the first time around, we would like to try and do this once a week until the SP season starts!

It will consist of eight teams; with eight players on a team which will be drafted by the owners chosen by the Tournament Committee. Anybody can play! You do not have to be signed up for SP although only SP players who have been recently active in the league (past three seasons) will be eligible to draft a team. This is a good way for new players to see the skill level of the league and get to know the members of the community, and decide if the SPNHL is something they would be interested in.

The tournament will be held over two days, with the most possible games to play in a night being four.

Below is what the schedule looks like:

The dates on the picture above are only suggested dates for now, as we are looking for some feedback on when people would be available to play. We would prefer to keep the game times early, since there is a potential to play four games in a night (this could be amended to a 45 minute difference between start times, as opposed to the 30 minute differential seen above).

Rules for the most part will follow typical SP rules with a few new ones:

  1. No whining allowed, take your L’s like a champ.
  2. Lag outs follow SP rules (https://thespnhl.com/disconnect-and-delay-rules/)
  3. No one can refuse a position.
  4. No more than two players with Truculence per team on the ice at once.
  5. All players drafted are required to play a minimum of 1 game (unless someone no shows)
  6. If a team is short a player before game time, they may request one of the spare players on other teams who are not scheduled to play in that time slot.
  7. The draft will happen the day before the Tournament starts. Owners may make a single trade, a strictly one-for-one trade, after the draft up until the games start.
  8. Pictures of final scores must be taken, as well as a picture of the player summary showing PSN IDs, goals, and assists.
  9. Games have to start as soon as possible for this tournament to run smoothly; don’t wait ten minutes for a guy to respond to see if he is playing. If you are short a player, grab a rostered player from another team who isn’t playing in that time slot. If you take more than ten minutes to start after your last game ended you will FF that game (We aren’t playing any waiting games around here, we just want to play some hockey!).

These rules are strictly on a trial basis right now, and depending on how the first tournament goes, necessary changes will be made to make it more enjoyable.

As stated in Rule 7, the draft will happen the night before to give everyone a chance to tweak their roster with a trade if necessary. Anyone not drafted that signed up will be placed in a Free Agent pool to be used by any team if one of their drafted players is not able to play.

This tournament is meant to be a fun way to play with new people within and outside the league, and grow some more interest in the SPNHL. If you get drafted to a bad team, it’s ok! You will only be playing two games anyways and your tourney is over, and you can try again next week.

If everything goes well, I’d also like to try and track player records, tournaments won, and potentially player statistics (just basic ones though: games played, goals, assists, and points).

I would like to get the League’s input on what days of the week work best for everyone this off season; I’d prefer not to do weekends since summer is here. Looking to start next week if the interest is there!

You’re all gutless,

Randymarsh2012

SPNHL S42 Semi-Final Preview and Quarter-Final Recap

Surprise! I was very close to doing a Round 1 article but decided against it.  Shout out to Randy for doing an amazing job with his gutless article.  I got to say, even though I was on the losing end of my series in round 1, from a viewer’s perspective I am loving the story lines going into round 2.  To start I am going to breakdown the first-round series then do a little preview of our West and East round 2 matchups. Let’s goooooooooo.

Western Conference Round 1:

4th Seed Seattle Kraken (22-19-4) vs 1st Seed Vegas Golden Knights (30-11-4)

Randy’s Prediction: Knights in 6

Result: Knights in 4

The Knights were heavy favourites going into this series, they were the team to beat in the West all season long.  They handled business quite easily winning games 3-1, 4-2, 3-2 in OT and a 3-0.  Can’t say I am surprised on this outcome.

3rd Seed Vancouver Canucks (28-14-3) vs 2nd Seed Arizona Coyotes (27-13-5)

Randy’s Prediction: Canucks in 7

Result: Coyotes in 7

Randy called his Nucks in 7 but, in my opinion the Yotes were definitely the better team.  Chad, I don’t know why you’re playing LW but please get back in the crease. Vandoos as a starting goalie is not going to win you a playoff series (with all due respect of course).  Internet trouble kept Chico out of the lineup on Thursday night for a couple games which was a huge loss for his team. This is probably the reason why this series was extended this long but regardless the Canucks played their hearts out.  After a few blow outs (1 for Vancouver, one for Arizona and a couple 3-0 shutouts, half of these games were decided by one goal.  Vegas and Arizona will be an interesting series looking forward to seeing this play out.

Eastern Conference Round 1:

4th Seed Carolina Hurricanes (28-13-4) vs 1st Seed Pittsburgh Penguins (35-8-2)

INCOMINGGGGGGGGGGGG!

Randy’s Prediction: Penguins in 6

Result: Penguins in 7

Cuban on the podcast called the Canes team “The scariest 4 seed” and he was absolutely correct.  These Canes loved to play the body but they were more than just goons taking 3 games from your Presidents Trophy Penguins.  End of the day, the Penguins top talent is among the best and the league and their Big boys came to play in game 7, Hardie scoring 4 with Bart creating most of those chances.  I agreed with Randy’s prediction of Pens in 6 but props to the Canes for extending this to 7 games (pretty sure John and Frauts had internet trouble Thursday as well but still).

3rd Seed Montreal Canadiens (28-12-5) vs 2nd Seed Toronto Maple Leafs (33-11-1)

Randy’s Prediction: Leafs in 5

Result: Canadiens in 5

The Leafs going into this series were the heavy favourites, a lot of people said the Habs did not have a chance but, Reapz and the squad decided to prove all of their haters wrong. I love this Cinderella story, gives me vibes of my very first SP team I ran that beat 3 way stronger teams to make the finals.  The Habs stuck to a game plan all series long with their goal of frustrating the Leafs by playing safe and smart was executed perfectly. Can the magic continue versus the Penguins?

Round 2:

2nd Seed Arizona Coyotes (27-13-5) vs 1st Seed Vegas Golden Knights (30-11-4)

Best Lineups:

Yotes:

LW- Pepsi C- Chico RW- Dangles

LD- Jags RD- Peen

G- Polar

Knights:

LW- Semple C- Jhursi RW- Fish

LD (LW)- Adam RD-  Benji

G- Choo

Keys to Winning:

For both of these teams I will give them the exact same advice, stop their star.  This goaltending matchup is one of the best you’ll see in SP with Polar vs Choo/jhursi.  Defence and forward skills are very even with stars on both teams.  End of the day, if the Coyotes can take Adam out of the game, they will win, if the Knights can take Chico out of the picture, they will win.  Guys like Fish for Vegas and Pepsi for the Yotes are going to have to step up and make big plays to win those games for their squad.

Prediction: Coyotes in 7 (if Vegas avail forces Jhursi in net and Buff as their #1 C) I can see them winning in less than 7

3rd Seed Montreal Canadiens (28-12-5) vs 1st Seed Pittsburgh Penguins (35-8-2)

Best Lines:

Habs:

LW- Reapz C- Serv RW- Cupi

LD-  Capt RD- Slap

G- Jean

Pens:

LW- Bart C- John RW- Hardie

LD- Dbs RD- Flyers

G- Devon

Keys to Winning:

Penguins: Score first

This team has the ability to dominate anyone in SP. The Leafs also were able to dominate possession and control the play vs the Habs however, only difference is they were always playing from behind.   If the Penguins can score early and force the Habs to apply more pressure and take risks they will be get more grade A scoring chances.  Their stars will also need to continue to make the big plays and carry the workload on offence and defence.

Canadiens: Grind, grind, grind

Pucks in deep, quick passes, taking your time if given room and capitalizing on your scoring chances is the keys to Habs success.  If the Habs do exactly what they did vs the Leafs, they have a chance to book their ticket to the finals.  One advantage they do have is in net, Jean has been an absolute monster averaging just under 20 shots a game and giving his team chances to win every game he’s played.

Prediction: Penguins in 6 (I think Jean is going to steal 1 game on Thursday for sure and the Habs likely take game 1 of the series)

Sp it has been an absolute pleasure, looking forward to watching the streams!
