Week 1 woohoo. You know who I am and why I am here so let’s rock. Time to over react to teams success or failures. Will not be a reflection of the standings because thats stupid but I will take into account how teams did.
In the number 1 position following week one, Da Philadelphia Flyas. A hot 4-0 start to the year the Cup favorites looked to be right where they belong. But losing 3 of 5 to end the week certainly wasn’t in the script. They will look to get back to winning ways on Tuesday with the easiest schedule seen since the 2022 Philadelphia Eagles. (Same)
Number 2. Arizona Coyotes. A 2 loss night to open the season was the Yotes fate, but they bounced back in a big way, rattling off 5 out of 6 to end the week, only losing to Ottawa.Coyotes have a relatively light schedule next week so expect them to continue solid play. (UP 2)
Number 3. THE OTTAWA SENATORS. Yurd. These Sens showed great perseverance this week as the sky was falling after a 1-2 Tuesday. They regrouped and put together a perfect performance to end the week outsourcing their opponents 31-11 in that span. We shall see if this pace stays up. (UP 3)
Number 4. St Louis Blues. The Blues did about as well as expected. Also a 5-1 start to the season but faltered on Friday. With the right guys on the ice they look like the team to beat in the West. Will be interesting to see how long the doordash payments keep the team together. (UP 1)
Number 5. The Nashville Predators. Preds are sneaky when they have the right guys in the lineup. 5-1 through the first 2 nights proved just that. With the lesser squad in there they went 1-2 with a win over winless New York. Hopefully Fish and Hyper stay peaceful. (UP 3)
Number 6. Florida. Another team that weathered the storm early to bounce back. A mid week acquisition of Fluri has only strengthened the forward heavy Panthers and will make the east even tougher. 46 goals leads the way. (UP 1)
Number 7. Colorado. The Avs salvaged the week with a 3-0 Friday to put them at 5-2-2 and sitting fourth in the West. Despite having a -3 goal differential, this team, like mentioned last week, is a greasy team that just battles. If they get a bounce or two in the OT games they are at the top of the league. (UP 3)
Number 8. New Jersey Devils. The team with high expectations to compete with Philly in the east fell flat on their face. After a 3-1 start, the Devils got curb stomped by the Sens and finished the week 1-3-1. Luckily the bottom of the east is what it is or they’d be in trouble. Acquiring beanzy will make or break the team. (Down 6)
Number 9. Like the team above, the Sharks also had hefty expectations and stumbled through week 1. Defensively the Sharks were easily top 5 but on the offensive end things weren’t clicking. Though they fall to 9, I expect them to be back in the top 5 in the next 2 weeks, if they score. (Down 6)
Number 10. Pittsburgh. This shocked me a bit because I expected them to be astronomically worse but they proved they can hang around in most games. After trading beanzy, goaltending fell off big time but blade may be able to patch the hole before the ship sinks. (UP 2)
Number 11. Anaheim. Egg struggled through a bad availability week, which everyone knew was and still will be an issue in the coming weeks. After an 0-6-1 start to the season, they found a way to pick up 2 big wins to build for next week. Maybe avail is better this week, maybe not. (DOWN 2)
Number 12. Well. I think it’s safe to say this spot might be occupied by this team for the foreseeable future. 0-8-1. Props to the Blues for letting them get that 1 point. Doranz can only do so much but hes gonna need some help or they will set a record. (DOWN 1)
