The REAL (?) SPNHL S45 Post Draft Breakdown

THIS IS A PARODY – Relax your tits!

Are you asleep reading that last article? Looking for some excitement in your life? Tired of the same blah blah blah from my lily-livered 3rd cousin, Randy Marsh? Well lucky you, my name is Hsram Ydnar. And I’m here to be your real source for SPNHL news. I don’t survive hurricanes, hurricanes survive me.

I am here to do a REAL breakdown. Not that hot dog water Randy and Doranz gave the SPNHL faithful. The toughest choice I had make was, do I read that junk they wrote or do I turn on the SPNHL podcast and listen to the most bland pathetic intro in all of podcasts. Give us some dang enthusiasm Cuban. Well the choice was easy, after reading the prior article doing about 69 seconds of research, here’s what I came up with.

Eastern Conference

Carolina Hurricanes

Owner: Doranz

Roster: xBradeii–, Lxppy–, Blade0Muffin, BejimoSzn, bxnana–, Jets76-bradyk14, FoxI14I, Bayest_King_Lu, TIMBOGY, X3_Svechnikov_X7

I ain’t doing ratings. Suck it. But I will give you this

Best pick: Lxppy  (for where he was drafted, xBradeii was to obvious to pick)

Worst pick: Bejimoszn

Strengths: Offense and players that will actually play for their GM. All the scared GMs will regret letting guys like Bradei and Lxppy slip.

Weaknesses: Defense, based on talent everywhere else. Bejimoszn is easily the weakest link. He’s over here, over there, never where you need him to be.

Philadelphia Flyers

Owner: Hughsy28-

Roster: BoKnows88-, reimatttack34, Jcpens22, JonTurner15-, II-megga-II, Spelliscy_21, Maintenance_84, sportsgeek5, LispDoge, Spinnermcgee, Billyg7718, NYfrijoles

Best pick: Boknows88

Worst pick: Spinnermcgee LOL

Strengths: Balance in the starting line. I feel this team is extremely balanced that starts with a great d pair in Hughsy & Reimattack. Bo is a scorer that the offense will go as he does.

Weaknesses: I hate using this term because it’s usually everyones issue in SP, but Depth. I don’t see much outside of their top 6. Sportsgeek could compete with JonTurner for starting tendy. Doesn’t scream excellence.

Buffalo Sabres

Owner: Ustoopiid

Roster: kylej83, Ande91, KarlssonIsGod, Sniiider, Liljxgren, xsalda-, Clake, CabRelix, X7-Arrow-7X, ShadyKo4, Nomoderation, Savage_Eze26

Best pick: Kylej83

Worst pick: Clake and picking the Buffalo Sabres as your organization.

Strengths: Defense will be king in Buffalo. With uStoopiid (stupid spelled it wrong) and Kyle defending the crease all the goalie has to do is be awake. Or competent.

Weaknesses: Goaltending. With no true number one, The Sabres lack someone stopping rubber consistently. Also no depth at Center whatsoever.

Washington Capitals

Owner: Eggman–1

Roster: John_Dean_16, Fluri37, FreezeMothasucka, NowYoDead, Bray4x_Fyb, AlecMcLay7, PghFANATIC, Turdburgler169, Jockey138, Terrance2nice, RiCKYxBoBBYjr, Troyuh-_-

Best pick: John Dean

Worst pick: PghFanatic (probably one of the worst sp players of all time)

Strengths: Center Depth. Washington has two of the best Centers in all of SP. It pains me to say something so nice about Fluri. Oh and versatility.

Weaknesses: Scoring consistently will be a weakness for this team, John is capable of controlling the play but outside of him there just isn’t much there. It will take a surprise pick or sleeper to step up.

Toronto Maple Leafs

Owner: WheelChairDevon

Roster: Fishhure, Jhursi, Complexitii-, xMarucci–. Philmorin, teamrun420, pistolpete7788_, fatalfire16, Jeanthedon42, xPugz_420, Thee_Ghosty, bg9m9r

Best pick: Jhursi

Worst pick: Fishhure

Strengths: Only one I see is chemistry between Jhursi and Fishhure. Outside of that, nothing. Actually, so strong I didn’t have anything else to write about. Thanks!

Weaknesses: Compatibility, scoring, goaltending, do I need to go on?

Western Conference

Colorado Avalanche

Owner: SA_Pliskin

Roster: Hardie, rich2k8, scorezov, flowsoclean, itsbinklee, illusionz_13, race2chasee, sergein, tibod, reallUncleLarry, Mgm2425, sourrrBH

Best pick: Scorezov

Worst pick: Hardie, overrated. Basically shouldn’t have been picked first.

Strengths: This forward line is really good. Even though I made a comment about Hardie earlier don’t be fooled, this forward group is going to do a lot of damage.

Weaknesses: Defense, penalties and goaltending. Plisk loves a good bad hit which will lead to them  killing a lot of penalties. I don’t see The Avalanche having the goalies to bail them out here.

San Jose Sharks

Owner: Randymarsh2012

Roster: Bxrt67, Philnee, Buckleyx14, Curtisx18x, IamSmokxy-_-, korrowan, xFlashify, Logan29-_-, Beeper_tha_1st_a, LaterSmitty, VBumqs-, Dooteees

Best pick: Bart

Worst pick: iamsmokxy

Strengths: Breakouts. When Bart plays this team will be able to breakout with the best of them. I expect them to be a top power play unit as well. Left side of the ice.

Weaknesses: Barts availability.  I can’t see this going far without him. Smokey’s constant yapping will also be an issue. Randy could’ve done better. I taught him better.

Vegas Golden Knights

Owner: Shock_R

Roster: Beanzy, LeCupidon, premierplayer, Mr-_-Goobs, Thafosix, heroic_veil2, HAC_Rambo, Korrupto-777, pc3pseidon, A-Mason_4, xGilmour93, LUYEYEP123, Lieutenantemu

Best pick: Beanzy

Worst pick: Premierplayer

Strengths: Two great wingers in Beanzy and lecupidon. Literally nothing else.

Weaknesses: I don’t need to bring up Premierplayer here do I? No, no I don’t, everyone already knows. Much like Toronto, this team has nothing outside of two good forwards.

Calgary Flames

Owner: Chadkillz134

Roster: MrllolChico, Semple19, J_Sherminator, xShxyne, heedlessjem48, alonzi401, Washko86, Jubjjjjjub, Ndirishman22, Alltro1, Lyrad99, DustyRoads052

Best pick: J_Sherminator

Worst pick: Chico and Dustyroads

Strengths: Goaltending and versatile. Semple and Sherminator should produce at a decent pace.

Weaknesses: While I picked Chico as the worst pick it’s not skill related. He just simply wasn’t worth taking inside the top 5. Dustyroads is guy similar to Pgh. Just bad.

LA Kings

Owner: Cuban1616

Roster: DetAjax17, SliyumShady, EL_Rookie, IvanthyGreat, Mikey92123, xshepxrd, gamertagrequird, CTN_laneyboo, Martok77, we345_-, X_apex-killa_x, Play-boyPaul420

Best pick: Not one good pick but if I had to pick it be El Rookie. Sigh.

Worst pick: Sliyumshady

Strengths: Decent defense.  Nothing else, I’m falling asleep trying to find another strength here.

Weaknesses: Cubans draft mentality. This GM missed on every single pick and I’m hoping this provides some locker room motivation to pull off some upsets. Im always rooting for the underdog but you won’t catch me placing any bets on The Kings.

I won’t be predicting any records or be giving out  any grades. I thinks it pretty obvious who did great, good, average and flat out failed. I will go ahead predict the Carolina Hurricanes to win it all. I can’t tell you who they will be playing because the West reminds me of the circus from the Disney movie, A Bugs Life. In all reality this has potential to be one of the more competitive seasons in SP in a long time and I look forward to it, well until the first big trape that is. Get ready!

Better than Randy,

Hsram Ydnar

SPNHL S45 Post Draft Team Rankings

RandyMarsh here, your local two-time hurricane survivor.

I did a breakdown of the teams in the Eastern Conference while Doranz- does the breakdown of the West.

The toughest choice I had was picking which team between Buffalo and Philadelphia would be ranked #2, I expect both of these teams to have some real good games against one another, Jmosh is gonna want to get some serious stream coverage on that shit fo sho.

Eastern Conference

Carolina Hurricanes

Owner: Doranz-

Roster: xBradeii–, Lxppy–, Blade0Muffin, BejimoSzn, bxnana–, Jets76-bradyk14, xDeBrincat, TommyDubz_716, TIMBOGY, X3_Svechnikov_X7

Projection: 1st in East

Forward Rating: 10/10

Defense Rating: 9/10

Goalie Rating: 8/10

Strengths: This teams offense will be the strongest in the league at any given night, even their 4th forward would be a starter on any other team. I don’t expect Randymarsh to survive these hurricane games….

Weaknesses: I’m not too familiar with their defensive depth pieces, but there could be potential issues with the talent level.

Overall Grade: A+

Philadelphia Flyers

Owner: Hughsy28-

Roster: BoKnows88-, reimatttack34, Jcpens22, PickleTickler69, II-megga-II, Spelliscy_21, Maintenance_84, Sportsgeek5, LispDoge, Billyg7718, NYfrijoles

Projection: 2nd in East

Forward Rating: 8/10

Defense Rating: 10/10

Goalie Rating: 7/10

Strengths: With Hughsy and Reim on defense this team will have one of the best d-pairings in the league, also with Megga and the option to put Jonturner in nets I wouldn’t expect to score too many goals against these guys,

Weaknesses: The lack of Centre depth could be a potential issue for these guys, just recently heard that LispDoge could’ve been the sleeper of the draft and for this Flyers squad I hope that is true. Having Boknows is real nice for this squad though, expect him to have the puck often.

Overall Grade: A

Buffalo Sabres

Owner: uStooPiiD

Roster: kylej83, Ande91, KarlssonIsGod, Sniiider, Liljxgren, xSalda-, Clake, CabRelix, X7-Arrow-7X, Shadyko4, Nomoderation, Savage_Eze26

Projection: 3rd in East

Forward Rating: 8/10

Defense Rating: 10/10

Goalie Rating: 6/10

Strengths: This d-pairing of ustoopid and kylej83 scares me more than Philadelphias pair, both guys have religiously given me a hard time anytime I’ve ever played them. With Ande, Karlsson, Sniiider, and salda being the spare depth forward, this team will be tough to compete against.

Weaknesses: Liljxgren had a great playoff run last season with the Capitals but he didn’t have many regular season games played, I’m concerned this team’s biggest struggle could be finding a goalie each night. But with the type of defense they will have in front of them, a monkey could get the job done.

Overall Grade: A

Washington Capitals

Owner: Eggman–1

Roster: John_Dean_16, Fluri37, FreezeMothaSucka, NowYoDead, Bray4x_Fyb, AlecMcLay7, PghFANATIC, Turdburgler, Jockey138, Terrance2nice, RiCKYxBoBBYjr, Troyuh-_-

Projection: 4th in East

Forward Rating: 8/10

Defense Rating: 7/10

Goalie Rating: 8/10

Strengths: This team will never have a bad forward line on the ice, getting AlecMcLay in the 6th round was a real nice pick too. Bray4x was one of the top goalies in the draft as well, with turdburgler backing him up these guys look solid.

Weaknesses: I wouldn’t necessarily call it a weakness, but defense will likely be the reason these guys lose any games, I think Eggman went all in with the idea that Freeze and Dead could fill those gaps on the blue line, but they both signed up for forward and the way this game plays there could be a good reason for that.

Overall Grade: B+

Toronto Maple Leafs

Owner: Wheelchairdevon8

Roster: Fishhure, Jhursi, Complexitii-, xMarucci–. Philmorin, Teamrun420, PistolPete7788, Frody410, JeanTheDon42, xPugz_420, Thee_Ghosty, bg9m9r

Projection: 5st in East

Forward Rating: 5/10

Defense Rating: 4/10

Goalie Rating: 5/10

Strengths: Ouf, compared to the teams above these guys don’t have much for strengths, fish and jhursi are nice to have, this team will be leaning on these guys heavily if they want to have a chance at winning games. Expect this team to have a minimum of 3 guys running truculence.

Weaknesses: Devon needs to find a first line LW, I don’t think complexitii will cut it with fish and jhursi, also this team would look a lot nicer on defense if pistolpete was more available than 3 a week.

Overall Grade: D

Now here is Doranz- breakdown of the West teams.

Western Conference

Colorado Avalanche

Owner: SA_Pliskin

Roster: Hxrdie-, rich2k8 , scorezov, flowsoclean, ItsBinklee, illusionz_13, race2chasee, Sergein, tibod, reallUncleLarry, Mgm2425, sourrrBH

Fwd: 8/10

Def 6/10

G 6/10

Strengths:

pliskin put together one of the best fwd lines in SP with Having hardie, Scorezov, and rich this is going to give this team an opportunity to outscore any team.

Also, this team has extremely good depth and very well managed.

Weaknesses;

I can see the Defense either being hit or miss literally, Pliskin is a goon.

Goalie availability could be an issue w binklee can only play 5 could see plisk in net every once in a while.

Avail in their Star player.

Defense could surprise everyone but probably not

Projection: 4th in the west (could be 3rd)

Fwd: 5/10

Def: 7/10

G: 9/10

Strengths:

ChadKillz and this team defense won’t let much in

Weaknesses:

Dont see this Fwd line producing much

No depth

No Top talent

Overall Grade: B

LA Kings

Owner: Cuban1616

Roster: DetAjax17, SliyumShady, EL_R_O_O_K_I_E, IvanThyGreat, Mikeyl92123l, xshepxrd, Gamertagrequird, CTN_laneyboo, Martok77, we345_-, X_apex-killa_x, Play-boyPaul420

Projection; 5th in the West

Fwd: 3/10

Def: 5/10

G: 3/10

Strengths:

Hopefully alot of heart

Depth at defense

Weaknesses:

No Fwds to score the puck.

Mid Dmen wont be able to produce offense.

Goalie might be a hit or miss.

No top talent.

Overall Grade: D-

Here is the team rankings as a league based on the Overall Grades given:

  1. Carolina Hurricanes A+
  2. Philadelphia Flyers A
  3. Buffalo Sabres A
  4. Colorado Avalanche A
  5. Washington Capitals B+
  6. San Jose Sharks B+
  7. Vegas Golden Knights B
  8. Calgary Flames B
  9. Toronto Maple Leafs D
  10. LA Kings D-

Well, it looks like the Eastern Conference will be top heavy this season (shocked!) with 4 of the top 5 ranked teams. The West looks like it will be a battle as well with all the rankings being similar. Toronto and LA have a lot to prove to start this season though, Doranz and I were not nice to them at all.

Have a fun season everyone, don’t break any controllers (John Dean).

Special thanks to Doranz- for doing the West breakdown for us and keeping me honest about my Sharks.

Stay Gutless SP,

RandyMarsh

THE SPNHL S45 PRE-DRAFT RANKING LIST

Now that all signups are done, I can finally give you guys an updated ranking for this season.

I’d like to reiterate that making this list was not only a chore, but extremely hard to do. I couldn’t dwell too hard on possibly moving guys up or down a few spots since each of you offer something unique on the ice that other players don’t.

For those players that I don’t know, I had to rank strictly off research alone, don’t take it personal. If I ranked you too low compared to what you think than just consider it a blessing, chances are you will get drafted lower which in turn makes you that much more valuable during this season.

For the players I do know, sorry if you don’t like your ranking, but suck it up and prove me wrong this season lol.

Biggest change I’d like to point out is that I moved Bartlett from #1 to #21 because he refused forward and dropped availability. Troll move bruh.

Players highlighted in yellow are your GM’s for this season.

Draft RankPSNPrimary PositionNotes
1xBeanZy-LWHighest point per game SP player to sign up this season.

23j_sherminatorCStrong player, don’t know him well but I do know if you’re playing against him it wont be an easy game

30Jcpens22LWGood LW who can bury the puck with the best of them with the right opportunity.

39xShxyneRDSolid RD who is offensively talented, good guy to have on the starting roster.
40xSalda-LWSneaky good LW who can score clutch goals, also not a bad dman when needed.
41xFlashifyG81.3 sv% in VGNHL, 82.2sv% in CNC, good G stats.’
42xshepxrdCTypically a dman, chose to go forward this season. Shep will get it done in any position though so don’t sleep on this guy.
43NowYoDeadCOne of the top Dmen last season on a below average team. Highly dependable and can play F well too.
44Faaa_KueueLDNot familiar with this player but his SP stats are solid, will likely be a good starting LD
45korrowanLDSolid LD who typically plays a strong physical game, also good at making the first pass out of the zone.
46Eggman–1LDSkilled LD who can play a shutdown role well, took his team to the cup finals last season after having a shaky start. One of the GMs this season.
47Blade0MuffinGSneaky strong G for a long time but is now known as a starting G in SP. Look for his name when it comes time to picking your goalie.
48LiljxgrenGHad very good stats last season in SP although only a limited number of games, his avail isn’t the best but I wouldn’t wait too long to pick this guy.
49Spelliscy_21LWStrong LW who likes to move the puck, paired with the right guys and he could be one of the higher scoring players.
50II-megga-IIGNot familiar with this guy but he has experience playing G in the LGNHL, this ranking could be the one I wasn’t even close on getting right compared to the others

52SA_PliskinLWCommish, GM, Coach, and player, this guy does it all, he’s been here since day 1. He will be owning again this season after a disappointing last season so expect him to turn it around this season. Strong left side of the ice guy who also plays between the pipes well too.
53CClark1999-CIf you want ur discord to blow up this guy is a great pick, refused G this season but he is a solid forward or dman option.

56xMarucci–RWLGAHL player, former SP player, haven’t seen him play but heard good things.
57iLLuSioNz_13RDNot too familiar with this guy but have played a few games with him, solid talent at D, could be another guy who I ranked too low though.
58premierplayerC2.1ppg in SP, 1.11ppg in VGNHL. Has that LGNHL experience so could be worth a lot higher in this ranking.
59SergeinRWSP legend, 976 career games played, great veteran presence to have on the squad and can put the puck in the net.
60Wheelchairdevon8GGoon of a dman, good goalie though, this guy could surprise some people between the pipes this season. One of the GMs this season.
61Tibod68GAnother solid G who I got to play VG with a few seasons ago, give this guy enough help and he will stop the first shot.
62Mikeyl92123lGMikey aka Sorokin aka icey, he had a hell of a season last year in nets and I expect the same this year. He will be a starter G this season for sure.
63CabRelixGI am not familiar with this goalie but he has strong LG experience, will likely be a starter.
64heroic_veil2RWSolid RW who can bury the puck, don’t count on him to carry your team but you can count on him to finish.
65xHAC_RamboRWHaven’t seen this guy play in a while, but from what I do remember he was a solid forward to have on your team, might make for a strong 3rd forward on your team.
66alonzi401GThis rap legend has played G for years, on the right team this guy will put up good numbers, don’t expect him to stop 30 shots a game though, he doesn’t have the patience for it.
67Shock_rGReturning GM for this season, solid goalie who can surprise you playing on the wings as well.
68Turdburgler169GTurdburglar makes his return to SP, solid goaltender that can get you a win with the proper defensive team in front of him.
69PhilmorinGPhilippe Morin, solid RD, Solid G, can fill any spot in the roster and do well. He signed up for G this season though and I expect him to do well. Could be the starter for your team or potentially take the spot from the guy you originally picked.
70Cuban1616LDPodcast extraordinaire, this owner had his struggles last season and is looking to bounce back. He is a ‘fill the void’ type of player who does what is best for his team at the time. Will likely play D most of the season though. One of the GMs this season.
71IvanthyGreatLWHe’s back! This guy took last season off after playing 30 seasons in a row (I think), he has the offensive talent to get pucks in the net and will make for a solid pickup in the 6th-7th round.
72GamertagrequirdCNot sure of his talent on C but is a very good RD option, makes the safe plays and keeps pucks away from his net.
73X7-Arrow-7XGI haven’t seen arrow play nets but I have seen him RD and he is solid, I’d be more likely to pick him for the RD role, but he may turn out to be a good G.
74JeanTheDon42RWI’ve only ever seen this guy play G, he had one season where he was an absolute beast in nets and stopping everything, the next season he was the complete opposite, he might be worth taking a chance on though for a potential starter
75Korrupto-777G75.5SV% in LGCHL, not too bad, worth a shot between the pipes.
76xPugz_420LWThis guy has typically been a depth roster player in SP. He gets points though so don’t sleep on him for too long.
77ShadykoLWI’ve seen Shady light it up in VGAHL scoring 80 goals one season, he hasn’t figured out SP enough yet to find that scoring touch but the potential is there
78AsianLover420__RWAsianLover is a troll of a human but he isn’t that bad of a player, he’s a solid depth player if you can handle the relentless chatter
79Fatalfire16LDI have this guy ranked low, but he could be a sneaky pick for a dman, his stats aren’t that hot but I’m not sure if he’s ever been put in a spot to excel yet in SP
80ThaFoSixRDFoxsix, he’s ranked kinda low but everyone wants this guy on their team, he can pay a shutdown role pretty well. Just don’t expect him to score any goals lol.
81sportsgeek5RDDecent defender, great guy to have if you need a spot filled, can play any position.
82Bayest_King_LuRD0.7ppg playing D in SP in previous seasons.
83Logan29-_-RWDon’t know this guy but he had some strong stats in the LGCHL, might be worth a risk on drafting higher.
84Thee_GhostyRWDon’t know this guy but he had some good stats in the LGCHL, might be worth a risk on drafting higher.
85JubjjjjjubRWJub has played on struggling teams only so far in his SP career, I think the potential of this guy could be higher but for now I only see him being a depth forward.
86PghFANATICLDDecent defender, if he stops making cross ice passes and just makes the simple one up the wall on neutral zone transitions this guys stock will go up big time. I’ve seen him turn over wayy too many pucks trying to make the long pass.
87AyyTrain1RWNot familiar with this player, saw he had a 2.6ppg in CNC, likely a good depth player.
88Dustyroads052GDusty isn’t too bad of a goalie but he’s been put in a lot of rough situations over the past few seasons, with a strong team in front of him this guy could perform much better.
89Terance2niceGDoesn’t have too hot of stats coming into this season, but could turn out to be a decent backup for the right team.
90Rathx4LWNot familiar with this guy, but he has played SP in seasons past and averaged a 1.8ppg, likely be a decent depth forward.
91LUYEYEP123C1.44ppg in VGNHL, 1.91ppg in VGAHL
92A-Mason_4LWKid sucks at hockey, don’t even know why he signed up
93Billyg7718RWNot familiar with this guy, but he has played SP in seasons past and averaged a 1.2ppg, likely be a decent depth forward.
94Lyrad99RWNot familiar with this guy, but he has played SP in seasons past and averaged a 1.1ppg, likely be a decent depth forward.
95Martok77GPoor Martok had a real rough season last year, he deserves a chance on a team that hasn’t sold.
96LaterSmittyRWThis guy had a 5.2ppg in VGAHL in the one season he played, there could be some real potential in this guy and this ranking may be up there in one of the worst I’ve done.
97Savage_Eze26LDThis guy played LGCHL and averaged a 0.71ppg on D, I’m thinking he’s a 3rd-4th dman for teams.
98Mr-_-goobsRDHis SP stats aren’t too hot but we know he will show up to play, another guy who would be a 3rd-4th dman on teams.
99bg9m9rRWThis guy has VGNHL experience, 1.85ppg. Could be worth taking a risk with a 6th roundish pick.
100DooteeesG70.5 sv% in Club games.
101Washko86CThis guy has VGNHL experience, 1.81ppg. Could be worth taking a risk with a 6th roundish pick.
102Maintenance_84LWThis guy has a 2.95 ppg in CNC, could be ranked too low as well, might be worth a higher pick.
103Jockey138RW2.34ppg in CNC, could be a solid option as a 4th-5th forward.
104FlowSoCleanLDLGCHL 0.72ppg player, CNC 1.97ppg player, might be a good 3rd-4th dman.
105VBumqs-LWCould only find EASHL stats for this guy and they’re 3.82ppg. He might be a lot better than he’s ranked but it’s hard to judge strictly based off the EASHL stats.
106reallUncleLarryRWCould only find EASHL stats for this guy and they’re 3.41ppg. He might be a lot better than he’s ranked but it’s hard to judge strictly based off the EASHL stats.
107ImOnA_PlainLD0.48ppg in VGNHL in an older season, might make for a solid 3-4th dman.
108NomoderationRWCould only find EASHL stats for this guy and they’re 1.85ppg. Can’t make a real good judgment based on those stats.
109Jets76-bradyk14RDLGCHL 0.75ppg, CNC 0.99ppg, this guy will show up to play though so he may be worth taking over some of the guys ranked around him here.
110LispDogeC1.55ppg in CNC, nothing too special about those stats, depth forward is what I’d pick him to be.
111Complexitii-LWNot many games played in league I looked up, he was committed to playing on a struggling Philadelphia team last season though, can count on him to fill voids.
112Crazyshow1414LDThis guy signed up twice I think under 2 different names, could be a troll. 1.78ppg in CNC, 2.53ppg in EASHL.
113X3_Svechnikov_X7GI think this guy recently changed his gamertag but I don’t know what it used to be. Could only find EASHL stats which are 2.59ppg
114xGilmour93GThis guy could be another troll, he was recently banned from VG under the tag Newfoundgamer88. 2.02ppg in LGCHL though, didn’t see any goalie stats.
115SpinnermcgeeG71.6 Sv% in LGCHL, will likely be a backup goalie this season.
116Pc3poseidonLD0,83ppg in CNC, this guy looks to be a depth dman.
117RiCKYxBoBBYjrRW2.66ppg in EASHL
118LieutenantemuRW2.57ppg in EASHL

Randymarsh2012

The Sharks Road to the Cup

Hello everyone,

Another season is in the history books. Instead of just doing a cup final article, I decided I am going to tell my (Randymarsh2012) season experience from start to finish, with the cup final having some more detail to give a somewhat proper breakdown of how that series played out.

The start of the journey begins below:

During the off-season of S43, I submitted my name to SA_Pliskin to be a GM, he gave me the greasy run around with the ‘maybe, but maybe not, depending on what owners are returning’ but eventually it became a yes.

Then it came time to team selection. I think I had the 4th choice out of the new GM’s on what team I could take over. The only 2 teams I had eyes on were the vacated Winnipeg Jets and Chicago Blackhawks, just praying that the 3 owners selecting before me did not pick one or both of those teams. I believe Dustyglove (VGK owner) and iearntofiy (SEA owner) selected 1 and 2, and DustyGlove selected the previous team who had the rights to Zinczy (which I think was my old S41 Sharks team when I was GM last, which may have been Pittsburgh of last season), and Fly chose to take over Peacekeepers Seattle squad. The next new GM to pick their team was SomeoneStopmePls, who played in Winnipeg last season. That fact had me thinking he was going to take the Jets, but he decided to take over Fishhure’s Columbus squad so he could resign Ustoopid. Which left me two teams with great resign options, I could choose Chicago who had Hardie, Hughsy, John D, MrlolChico and more, or I could go with Winnipeg who had Bartlett, Tommyboiii, Bejimoszn, and Staleee. We were only allowed 1 resign though which made the decision a bit more difficult.

I messaged Tommyboii and asked him if he would want to be resigned, he pretty much told me to pound sand and that his availability would be weak this season. So, I then messaged Bart and asked him if he’d be willing to resign with me and his exact words were ‘Sure I’m down, I suck though so just a warning’ and I told him ‘I don’t want to do good anyways so it’s fine that you suck.’

Then my choice of taking over Winnipeg and resigning arguably the best player in the league was made, all thanks to Tommyboii egoing be with his bad avail, and special thanks to Fly and Dustyglove for passing up on Winnipeg.

Heading into the draft it seemed obvious to me that Defense was going to be a very scarce position this season for all teams, not a lot of people signed up to be a primary defender. Getting 2 top defenders with my 1st and 2nd round picks was my top priority. There was a lot of draft picks being traded before the draft and it was hard to keep up, I felt like I was blowing it by not making some big moves before the draft. I did try a few different times to move up in the draft, but no one seemed interested in any of my trades (which was fair cause I was trying to fleece them slightly…) so I ended up being one of the few teams heading into the draft without trading a pick.

I had my eyes on KyleJ83 as my first pick but having the 9th overall selection made that a long shot. I asked a few different players about who might be some sleeper picks in this draft for defenseman, and the name that came up every time was NoScxpe96 at LD. So, the new plan was to take him if KyleJ83 was not on the board. Sure enough, NoScxpe fell to me, and I was able to take him with that 9th pick.

Now I had to work on the RD position, with KyleJ83 off the board the next best Dman who signed up for RD was Wardo_05, a 9.5M contract, but compared to every other defender left on the draft board it was worth it, so with the 11th overall pick I grabbed him. With 2 forward spots locked up, and my starting dmen locked up, I decided to focus on a LW next, thinking I could get a decent goalie for cheap in the later rounds.

In the 3rd round I went with a very reasonable 4.5M contract in Staleee-, knowing him and Wardo are bffs and that he played with Bart last season it was an easy choice.

Later in the draft I grabbed philmorin, ferdaboiss69, Nxbxr, itsjustskillz, and ice_uck to round out my top 10 roster. Both Nxbxr and Ferdaboiss69 were nice sneaky picks both being LGAHL players and solid at their positions, while itsjustskillz was a solid pick up in round 7, I played with skillz in previous seasons and he always put-up good numbers in nets and he was never toxic towards me like he has been known to be with other GM’s.

We started the season off hot, going 9-1-0 after first 10 games and seemed to be setting the tone for the league, then we had a real bad night of availability forcing me to use TC’s and have myself play RD and we went 1-2-0 one night. The bad night didn’t knock us out of first place, but it made me question what kind of availability troubles I may have going forward.

During the same week that we went 1-2-0, Philadelphia was having an awful week and were struggling hard. Cuban posted in the trade block chat that they wanted to make some moves, I messaged Cuban and asked him what the asking price for Hughsy28 was. After a short back and forth we made the block buster deal in trading Wardo_05, Staleee-, Nxbxr, ice_uck, and Flinn21(TC) for Hughsy28-, lxppy, pickletickler, and druwyy. This was a tougher deal for me to make than most people think, considering how well Wardo and Staleee were playing for the Sharks at the time (staleee with a 4.2ppg and Wardo with a 2.0ppg on D), and same with nxbxr because he was a solid defensive dman who broke the puck out well, but he was a primary LD. The reason I did the deal though was because I already had noscope playing 8/9 a week at LD, there wasn’t much opportunity for Nxbxr to get playing time. Wardo is an offensive RD, but we weren’t having any troubles scoring. I wanted a guy who I knew played the defensive role of D well and did it at a very competitive level, and that’s where hughsy made sense to grab in this deal, he’s also versatile can play anywhere. Pickle was a lowkey nice addition too, knowing he can play G very well and a solid LW if needed. Lxppy and Druwyy were the risky parts in the trade because no one ever said anything good about their avail and their commitment to the league. I figured if they got traded to the top team in the league that attitude might change though. I made this trade knowing I got 2 good reliable guys in hughsy and pickle, with hopes of lxppy and druwyy being more available than they were in Philadelphia.

Washington Capitals shortly after I made that deal with Cuban proposed a trade to me about acquiring Druwyy for Shephxrd. Knowing Shep’s talent, reliability, and his value to most GM’s in this league compared to their knowledge of value for Druwyy, I accepted the deal.

Lxppy was working out well for us in San Jose, he only missed 1 scheduled game because he was sleeping but overall, he was committed to the cup cause.

Then we had another game changing trade.

Vegas was looking to move John Dean, MrlolChico, and twnspepsi to a cup contending team. He felt that his top players deserved a better fate than the shit show that they got thrown into with Vegas with the GM quitting earlier in the season (dustyglove ur a troll) and their strong depth players giving weak availability.

So, I traded my starter LW in lxppy, my backup LW in ferdaboiss69 (who was a 3+ppg player as well), shepxrd (who was my backup Dman but normally a starter on most teams in the league), itsjustskillz (who was 13-0 in nets), and memento-mori (TC player who is an owner in VG).

The biggest problem with this trade for Vegas was the commitment levels out of the guys I traded to them, they all would play for the top team, but some wouldn’t play for one of the more struggling teams in the league. It was unfortunate, but no one can say that there was no value in the players that I traded (excluding the commitment thing). John and Chico weren’t giving Vegas full avail at the time due to real life stuff, Pepsi was the only player who was showing up for Vegas 9/9 that was in the deal. It was unfortunate for Vegas that they didn’t get the commitment from the guys I traded other than skillz and shep. IF (and that’s obviously a big if) all guys traded showed up for Vegas like they should have, that trade does not look near as bad. If Vegas thought they had a true chance at beating us then they likely don’t do this trade, but when you are a bottom team in SP, GM’s typically make moves for the guys who stuck it out for them all season to try and give his top guys a true chance in playoffs.

Anyways, into the final week of the season, we started to push harder to grab that 41-win record which ties the best season record (S23 Buffalo Sabres), and Bart and I wanted to snake the scoring titles from Hardie who lead in goals and points all season. We accomplished both tasks (suck it Hardie lol) and then moved onto focusing for playoffs.

Round 1 we had Vegas who just edged out Colorado for the lowest seed in playoffs, we beat them in 4 without top lining them once. Closest we came to losing was game 1 where we won 3-2 in OT against our worst lineup, thank you Pepsi and Bart for coming through offensively for the boys in that game.

Round 2 we played Edmonton where we went to OT in game 1 winning 3-2 (seeing a trend here). They played their backup line against our top line, and we were lucky to squeak that win out. A loss in that game would’ve been a series changing event. Edmonton was by far the toughest team we played, giving our top line its first loss all season and shutting us out at the same time. They had a real strong team, and they should’ve been in the cup finals playing us instead of having to see us in the 2nd round.

Stanley Cup final was next, as a Shark team we were hoping we were going to see Detroit in the Cup final so that we could tease Hardie when we beat him and ruined his chance at a 3-peat. Instead, Washington had the honor of putting them out and got to play us. I’m going to do a quick game by game breakdown since there won’t be another article like myself and Dirty D done previously that would usually cover this.

Game 1 – we were up 1-0 most of the game and then Washington scored 2 goals fairly late in the 3rd period to go up 2-1 with 4 minutes left in the game. Then Hughsy took a tripping penalty with 1:59 left to put us shorthanded. It looked to be over for us but Bartlett and John Dean were not ready to roll over yet, Bart carried the puck in on the left side and did his magic protecting the puck and then hit a wide open John Dean on the far post on a cross crease pass through like 4 Washington poke checks and tied the game (that’s the kind of EA nonsense I preach on the podcast that can change a game). In overtime the Sharks pretty much scored right away with a John Dean goal to take a 1-0 series lead. Sharks had their top line out while Fluri missed this one cause of LG playoffs. (The Sharks won game 1 by a score of 3-2 in OT in each playoff series, strange stat).

Game 2 – There was no Hughsy or John Dean for the Sharks, so Philmorin and TwnsPepsi got the call to play. Washington were missing Prodigytolegend due to LG as well. This game was all TwnsPepsi for the Sharks though as he had the big hattrick (including the empty netter) to win the game 4-2. Wardo scored both goals for the Capitals, but it wasn’t enough to get his team the W they needed against a Sharks team missing 2 of their top 5 skaters.

Game 3 – Sharks top line was back together again but the Capitals did not have Wardo in this one and Sharks took the game 3-0 for a commanding 3-0 series lead.

Game 4 – Sharks were going to be missing Hughsy for all 3 games Thursday because he was away on a night trip with his buddies. Washington team showed up again without Wardo. So I (RandyMarsh) had to play RD so that AsianLover420 could play his first game of the series on RW. Pickle was in nets for his first game of the series as well.

This game looked to be final curtains for the Capitals, but Washington tied it 3-3 in the third and force it to OT. But it was John Dean again being the OT hero to score and win the cup for the Sharks in a 4-0 series sweep.

It was unfortunate that Washington never got to play their actual top line against us, but they only saw the Sharks top line in games 1 and 3 this series so I think they can only blame that aspect so much, they had 2 opportunities to win games against the Sharks depth lines but still came up short. Having said that all games were very close, and Washington stayed composed to the end. They never got blown out once and were competitive the entire series. Great job Eggman and great playoff run to you guys, you were underdogs against Detroit and pulled it off, you guys had the farthest thing from a failed season.

What a season these Sharks had though, 41-4-0 in the regular season, 12-2-0 in playoffs. The only team in SP history that did better in a 45-game season was the S23 Buffalo Sabres who went 41-2-2 and won the cup as well that season. Shoutout to SedinPower, Sudzy-l92l, hypey-, bstieboydp, JayScott, MacInnis_2, ja-girard, Montoni007, Polsa_Boss_780, and Xxqc_poutine69xxx on that accomplishment.

Bartlett (twnsPepsiMax), it’s crazy that you didn’t play any other league other than SP this season lol. Your commitment to the team and dirty thumbs was what made the Sharks the team that they were. You played C most of the season and were excellent in both ends of the ice, getting you with my resign was the main reason we went all the way this season. I also appreciate you playing with COVID even though you were certain it was going to kill you. Thanks for carrying my baked potato ass to my first cup in a long time and carrying me to a rocket trophy.

Noscope (twnsDietCoke), you have the best defensive stick I have ever seen and were great at moving the puck up the ice. You carried the defensive weight on this team all season and I lucked out big time getting you with that 9th overall pick. We don’t win this cup without you. You were the best defenseman all season in my eyes and that Norris trophy should be yours. Easy Calder choice too. If you don’t win Calder, I will start a riot.

Hughsy (twnsFanta), you had a great playoff run leading d-men in scoring and were a huge factor in the Sharks success, and you did it all from playing RD (although you would rather play LD). It just goes to show why you are the most overall versatile player in this league being able to play any position (including G). It doesn’t come to a surprise to anyone that you have won 3 cups in a row. I don’t know if anyone noticed I put the ‘C’ on your jersey and took it off myself this season either lol, it should’ve come up in discussion at least once. Great season and thanks for not totally hating my guts when I play like ass.

John Dean (twnsCoke), you’re a gutless prick first and a great teammate 2nd. Jk (kind of). You’re the best defensive Center I’ve ever played with and have a great hockey sense. It’s a real talent that you can move the puck so quick without forcing anything, it’s a rare thing to find in this game. You will never catch this guy hanging onto a puck too long unless he is below the goal line trying to do his fancy flip play (it worked once bro, but don’t stop trying cause the 2nd time will be just as epic). You scored 2 big OT goals in the Stanley Cup finals with one being the goal to win at all for us. You are a well-deserved 3-peat cup champ. Congrats brother.

MrLolChico, you came up big for us against Edmonton with key breakaway saves and some cross-crease plays. I think we both would agree that series was where you made your mark as a cup champ in nets. Your numbers in the playoffs don’t reflect how well you did play as a G in the playoffs. SP now knows that you are a starter G in this league easily. I doubt you’ll ever sign-up G only again, but hopefully you don’t refuse it either for those odd games where you team may need a G lol. Congrats on the back-to-back cups and potentially the Vezina award as well. Well earned.

TwnsPepsi, you deserved more games than you got to play in these playoffs, if I wasn’t a selfish prick who wanted to play every game you would’ve easily had more. You came up clutch against Washington in game 2 that truly crushed their hopes in beating us. You were the unsung hero on this team brother and lead us to wins when it mattered to get us the cup. You’re unique gamertag also brought a lot of laughs into the discord with all the copycat twnsSoda names. Congrats on the cup homie.

Pickletickler (twnsDrPepper), you’re a god damn troll and you sell games ong. I must admit though, when you decide you want to play some legit G you are one of the better ones. You could’ve easily been the starter on this team and we still would’ve won the cup. You played some good games at LW during the season too, teams shouldn’t be waiting to the 7th round to be picking you that’s for sure. Congrats on your first cup.

PhilMorin, you teabagging slut, great job all season on D and G as well, a lot of teams wanted you in trade talks but I told them no. Who else would’ve told Bart that he’s ass, needs to finish, and remind him of where the blueline is? Also settle down on farting into the mic while holding your baby, that can’t be good for him. Thanks for signing up for the season when I asked you to randomly in the public chat, and thanks for being a part of this great season we had. We wouldn’t have won as many games as we did without you. Congrats on your first cup.

AsianLover_420 (twnsMountainDew), I’ve never met a guy who talks about his own sister the way you do, sorry we were hard on you about staying on the right side of the ice, but we didn’t want you to be sniffing Barts bum as much as you did, it is really distracting to him. You’re weird dude first, and a cup champ second. Not everyone that plays SP can say that they’re a cup champ though.

Thank you to my team for carrying me to a cup victory and snapping my playoff cold streak at 17 seasons. Hopefully I’ll never have a cold streak like that again lol. It was a fun season and looking forward to playing with most of you guys again in S45 on the PS5 or PS4 or whatever Plisk decides.

*I’ll take 42% cup odds anytime with this Sharks squad.*

Chadkillz134 had the least number of goals against.

RandyMarsh’s Award Nominations

This is strictly just my take on the award nominees and where I would put them, I am not on the actual committee or choosing these awards.

Hart Trophy:

  1. Bartlett—67 – Led league in scoring, accounted for 66.1% of his team’s offense, and had a personal record of 39-4-0 in games he played this season. Also maintained a decent -1.98GV:TK Ratio among forwards with the 2nd best FO% out of all C’s who took 100+ draws.
  2. Hxrdie – Finished 2nd in scoring, had best +/- in league, accounted for 67.9% of his team’s offense while missing 9 of his team’s games. Had a Personal record of 26-5-2.
  3. Blade0Muffin – Faced the most shots in the league this season while maintaining a 3.88 GAA on a team where the offensive production was the worst out of any other team. Also secured 11 of his teams 14 total wins (FF’s not included).

Norris Trophy:

  1. NoScxpe96 – Led defensemen in points and +/-. Had a positive +2.85GV:TK Ratio. Had a personal record of 32-2-0.
  2. KyleJ83 – Finished 2nd amongst defensemen in most offensive stat categories (more games could’ve put him 1st). 2nd in TK and 3rd in INT. He did lead the league in GV for Dmen, but to me that shows he was relied on heavily with the puck compared to most other defensemen in the league this season. Personal record of 23-4-2.
  3. NowYoDead – 3rd in scoring for dmen, most goals for dmen, 2nd in hits for dmen, most TK and INT and maintaining a +4.38GV:TK ratio. Personal record of 12-17-3.

Frank J. Selke Trophy:

  1. Iearntofiy – +1.30GV:TK in 37 games played, 1.8 points per game, 3rd in hits with 145.
  2. YoJonsn – 1.8 points per game, -0.38GV:TK Ratio, 2nd in hits with 184.
  3. FreezeMothaSucka – 2.2 points per game, +0.7GV:TK Ratio, led league with 206 hits.

*Honorable mention in Bartlett—67, led league in TK with 151 and 2nd best +/- with 85 and also was 2nd best FO%, but he doesn’t need this award screw him.

Bill Masterton Trophy:

  1. ThaFoSix – 28GP on a team that has had one of the biggest roller coaster rides of the season.
  2. El_Rookie – 20GP (out of a possible 25 due to Phillys 20 FF games) and helping Cuban ice a team any night it was possible.
  3. FreezeMothaSucka – 40GP (missing 5 games due to FF’s) played every single game this season and didn’t bitch or complain about anything.

*If GM’s can win this award then Shock_r should be on this list as well for taking over Vegas and managing to get his squad to playoffs.

Calder Trophy:

  1. NoScxpe96 – 34GP, 53pts as a defenseman.
  2. Sniiider – 16GP, 48pts as a forward.
  3. Spelliscy_21 – 19GP, 42pts as a forward.

Vezina Trophy:

  1. MrlolChico – 18-5-0, 2.30GAA, 84.23SV%, played on 2 top teams but also one lesser team this season.
  2. BrazGhostt – 8-13-0, 3.38 GAA, 77.46SV%, played on a team with a losing record and one of the highest shots against per game teams in the league.
  3. Blade0Muffin – 11-21-0, 3.88GAA, 75.40SV%, played on one of the least offensive teams in the league and faced more shots than any other goalie.

*Honorable mentions go to XxGrahame_47xX and Sorokinl30l for having great starts to the season but ended up losing the handle a bit in the final weeks which just barely knocked them out of the top 3 for me. Itsjustskillz also was one of the top candidates halfway through the season with a 13-0-0 record, but he stopped playing G so I removed him from the list.

…And here is a look at the stats of week 6, not saying anything about them just posting them for everyone to have a look. Enjoy.

I said I wasn’t going to say anything but look at Liljxgrens stats this week! Holy! Washington may have found a secret weapon for playoffs.

Hope everyone enjoyed the read… if you didn’t like it then you can suck me dry.

SPNHL S44 Final Standings in Depth

Here is a look at some additional stats that I did manually which you won’t see on the main standings page on the website. All stats below are adjusted to not include FF games. I may have missed the odd game or double counted but I think it’s close enough for everyone to get an idea.

The shots against stat is fairly accurate but not 100%, I just took each teams goalie stats and added them together and divided by their games played, so the number could be roughly + or – 1 shot per game off since goalies were moved around this season. Same with the Team Save % stat.

The most interesting stats I found are with this Colorado team, they had 18 1-goal games where they went 4-8-6, losing 14 close ones. If Colorado ends up winning at least half of those games they lost, they could’ve been ahead of Seattle for 3rd in West.

Also, Vegas had 3 more FF Wins this season compared to Colorado which if those games were just wiped then Colorado would be in playoffs and not Vegas, but the fact that Vegas won the flex game to clinch over Colorado makes it all look better in the end anyways. Vegas earned the spot.

Couple of notable stats listed above:

Detroit had the most 6+ goal games with 19 this season.

Detroit and San Jose both had the least amount of 6+ goals a game against with 2.

Seattle and Vegas had the least amount of 6+ goals a game with only doing it once each.

Montreal averaged the most shots against per game at 16.1

San Jose averaged the least number of shots against per game at 10.3

Seattle averaged the least number of goals per game with 2.66

San Jose squeaked out 13 1-goal game wins out of 14 which is one third of their total wins this season.

Seattle Kraken had a positive record in 1-goal games going 10-5-3.

SPNHL Season 44 Review

I wrote an article at the start of the season of where I projected each team to finish in the Standings. Since the season is over, I thought I may as well go back and reflect on how dogshit of a job I did since I’m sick as fuck and have nothing better to do.

Randy’s Post-Draft Team Rankings

  1. Detroit
  2. Edmonton
  3. San Jose
  4. Colorado
  5. Washington
  6. Montreal
  7. Philadelphia
  8. Vegas
  9. Toronto
  10. Seattle

End of Season Rankings:

  1. San Jose +2
  2. Detroit -1
  3. Washington +2
  4. Edmonton -2
  5. Toronto +4
  6. Montreal 0
  7. Seattle +4
  8. Vegas 0
  9. Colorado -5
  10. Philadelphia -3

As you can see, I did a terrible job, the only thing I was right about was Montreal being the 6th best team and Vegas being 8th, and I feel like I got them right for the wrong reasons lol.

The only thing I feel I got close to right was that San Jose, Detroit, Edmonton, and Washington were top 5 teams. I just didn’t have them in the right order.

My biggest disappointment team is Colorado, they had good pieces to start the season but their poor availability and lack of chem with the drafted rookies turned this team into a bottom feeder quick.

Biggest improvement team goes to both Toronto and Seattle, I thought Toronto’s trades before the draft hurt them more than it actually did, they came out of the gate strong and competed every night. They did start to slow down at the end of the season but still did much better than I thought they would overall. Dirty D did a good job icing good lines each night and never having to FF a game.

Seattle’s re-sign and draft choices were questionable to start the season and they did start slow, but Fly’s determination to get this team out of the bottom and show SP that they won’t be an easy W each night and managing to rally his team together for good availability for the season put his team into a playoff spot. Great work.

Now the big question is who’s going to take home Lord Stanley? I’ll probably start writing some playoff shit now.

SPNHL S44 PLAYERS OF THE WEEK

(Week 5 – Games 31-39)

With the final week of full scheduled games behind us here is a look at the top performers of the week:

xBeanZy- takes home the top prize being this week’s top forward (took him long enough). Beanzy was quiet all season playing minimum games but now he looks to be taking charge in Edmonton again and leading the offense.

Semple19, finally making his bunk ass back to the players of the week list after his big 1st week in Washington, then being traded twice to finally land in Edmonton. It looks like he’s back to his scoring ways though.

Bartlett underperforming AGAIN, this guy needs to give his head a shake and stop letting philmorin run his show.

Zercylol and Zinczy are now on the list again after their trade to Colorado, these guys are making a strong impact there in a tight race for the 4th spot in the West.

A familiar name that is no longer on the list is Hxrdie, taking most of the week off only playing 3 games and allowing Bartlett to catch him in points. I’d like to thank Mr. Hxrdie for allowing the scoring race to become a bit more interesting.

Interesting stats:

Semple, Zercylol shooting at 53.33% each had the hot hands.

FreezeMothasucka with 31PIMs, that’s aggressive.

Zercylol with 106GV in 6 games (17.67GV per game)

New Additions to the list this week are Beanzy, Semple, Zercylol, iZinczyi, Freezemothasucka, Reapz2313

Failed to make it back to this week’s list is Hxrdie, Hughsy, Sniiider, Fluri, twnsPepsi, Wardo.

Ande91- went off this week in Edmonton averaging a 2.2ppg in 6 games and taking home the defensive player of the week with a good +/- and solid GV:TK ratio.

Shepxrd had a strong week in Las Vegas as well, his +/- wasn’t too hot but averaging a 1.1ppg and a +35GV:TK tells me the plus minus stat wasn’t because of his play.

Coffey-Lidstrom had a week as well on the Oilers putting up a 1.8ppg, greasy 6 PIMs though that’s gutless of him.

Interesting stats:

4 oilers made the list this week with Ande91, Coffey, Ustoopid, and Vossy.

An SP legend Thafosix rounds off the top 10 at the bottom with a 1.0ppg.

There is no Colorado, Detroit, Montreal, Washington, Seattle, or Philadelphia defensemen on the list this week.

New additions to the list are: Ande91, xshepxrd, philmorin, Uberpwned, Vossy, and Thafosix.

Failed to make it back to this week’s list are KyleJ83, Iamsmokey, NowYoDead, RandyMarsh2012, Stikky-fingaz, and beantwn_beatdwn.

Now for the goalies, I sorted this week by SV% with a minimum of 3GP for the week and luckily enough was able to make a top 10.

MrlolChico, a newly acquired player for the Sharks takes home this week’s goalie of the week posting a 7-0 record and an 83.33SV%.

Blademuffin going 2-4 with an 80.28% is crazy, come on Seattle you can’t be losing games when this guy is stopping that many shots for you.

Clake goes 8-1 this week with a solid 79.28SV% and a SO. Not too bad for a guy who had a top line in front of him most of his games.

Interesting stats:

SA_Pliskin faced an average of 16.25 shots per game

Sorokinl30l faced an average of 15 shots per game

Brazghostt faced an average of 14.5 shots per game

New additions to the list this week: MrlolChico, Brazghostt, SA_Pliskin, Shock_r, Dustyroads, FxtDino.

Goalies who decided not to play in nets this week: itskustskillz, Wheelchairdevon, Terrance2nice, Pickletickler69, Oldmanjigglynutz, xrichter35.

With only 6 games left in the season I’ll do the list again except I’m just gonna straight up trash on everyone instead. Sick of being nice, I donno why I was this time.

SPNHL Season 44: Weekly Review/Power Rankings – “The Cycle of Life”

By: Dirty-Dietrich & randymarsh2012

So, I’m a few weeks late on this news, but skate. (the fourth installment of the franchise) is going free-to-play? Now, Electronic Arts has successfully launched and supported a few FTP franchises over the past few years, but taking one of their most demanded titles and (reportedly) removing the story mode, one of the features that made people fall in love with the game, and focusing exclusively on online play and collaboration may alienate long time fans of the franchise who begged and pleaded with the game titan to reboot the series. Either that, or it will make them truckloads of money.

So, the trade deadline has passed and we are officially on the way to the SPNHL playoffs! 10 teams have finalized their rosters and are now all in (well, most of them) on making a deep push towards the Stanley Cup. While there were some debatably lopsided deals that occurred over the past week, change was afoot in the league: contenders got stronger, basement dwellers had fire sales, and needs were assessed and addressed. Players packed their bags and filled them with gear, clothes, and aspirations for championship glory.

Considering how well it went last week, my dear friend Randall and I are going to recap the week that was in the SPNHL. We’ll be looking at how teams performed this past week, their overall record on the season, their strengths and weaknesses, their most valuable players (c’mon, Hardie, do the unsung heroes article!), and their key acquisitions at the deadline. Will these reviews drum up some controversy? Perhaps. Are we using these reviews to scout our opponents? Absolutely. Are you ready for some football? Sorry, wrong character.

We’ll be starting with the Eastern conference. Take it away, Randy!

EASTERN CONFERENCE

  1. Detroit Red Wings.

Last Week’s Rank: 1.

Overall Record: 21-6-3.

Weekly Record: 7-1-1 (W3).

Strength: Even Strength hockey.

Weakness: Special Teams.

MVP: Hxrdie, leads league in scoring by 16pts and a huge +76.

Trade Deadline Acquisitions: SelkeTommyGoat, Benji_Frank, SgtVandoos, Ice_uck.

This Detroit team keeps putting up W’s, putting up big scores, and is excelling at even strength hockey this season; the majority of the best +/- players in the league are Red Wing players. Their weakness seems to be on the PP (ranked 5th) and PK (ranked 7th); they need to start capitalizing on more of their PP opportunities, kill off some more of those penalties, and get those special teams back into the top 3 in the league.

Detroit ended up moving their trade bait (Zinczy and Zercy) to Colorado for top C Tommyboii and a strong LD in Benji Frank. This move made sense for both teams considering their predicaments and having Tommy at C should help with the teams PK and PP issues. Expect this team to finish the season on top in the East with a likely matchup against Montreal in the first round.

  1. Toronto Maple Leafs.

Last Week Rank: 2.

Overall Record: 19-8-3.

Weekly Record: 5-4-0 (L1).

Strength: Defense and PK.

Weakness: Offense.

MVP: YoJonsn, leads team in points, games played, best 2-way player.

Trade Deadline Acquisitions: Staleee.

This Leafs team had an up and down week, going 5-4 and losing some games they should have won with 2 losses to Vegas and 1 loss to Seattle. They are still hanging on to the 2nd spot in the East with solid goaltending and solid defense, but they need their forwards to start clicking a bit better; they’re only averaging 2.97 goals per game while the other top teams are averaging 5.26.

The Leafs can’t count on winning with that low of scoring night in and night out; these forwards need to go off this week upfront now that the deadline has passed, they have 15 games to get some chem. I wouldn’t change a thing about their defensive play though, these Leafs get the job done in their own end.

  1. Washington Capitals.

Last Week Rank: 3.

Overall Record: 17-13-0.

Weekly Record: 7-2-0 (L2).

Strength: Offense.

Weakness: Defense.

MVP: Fluri37, leads team with 73pts.

Trade Deadline Acquisitions: Wardo, Druwyy, Kwhiss.

This Washington group went 7-0 to start the week, and then ended up losing the last 2 games of the week to San Jose and Detroit. This team has gotten much stronger by trading for Wardo which gives them a new top line option of Prod – Wardo – Fluri and having 4 solid defencemen in Eggman, Smokey, Druwyy and Dustin with some solid goaltending in goalieman.

These guys are shaping up to be able to complete a deep playoff run. If the availability is there, these guys could climb up and take the 2nd spot in the East from Toronto. This team is no slouch and should make for some very interesting games from now till playoffs.

  1. Montreal Canadiens.

Last Week Rank: 4.

Overall Record: 12-18-0.

Weekly Record: 2-7-0 (L2).

Strength: Offense.

Weakness: Defense, PK.

MVP: Reapz/Cupi, lead team in points.

Trade Deadline Acquisitions: Kidmoney, ImperialBlaze.

The Canadiens went 0-5 to start the week, went on to win the next 2 games, but then had 2 FF L’s at the end of the week to Vegas and Philly which were winnable games for them to try and salvage the week. I think with Philly locking in last place in the league, these guys are just looking to coast into playoffs anyways accepting their 4th place seed. Reapz is looking at the long game here and getting his team ready for playoffs. If we learned anything from the past few seasons with this Montreal team its that they like playing the upset card and they play it well, they took the Stanley cup runners up to 7 games last season and eliminated a cup favorite in 5 games the season before that.

They just need to get this avail straightened out and it would be nice of Jhursi to finally show up for these guys for a game or two. Kidmoney was a solid trade for these guys though to help fill that current void jhursi has left. So we will see how this Habs team looks at playoff time. They still have the secret weapon of Braz in net; if they can figure out how to tighten up in their own end and protect him better these guys could easily start winning more games.

  1. Philadelphia Flyers.

Last Week Rank: 5.

Overall Record: 8-22-0.

Weekly Record: 1-8-0 (W1).

Strength: Grabbing a big FF win.

Weakness: Heart.

MVP: El Rookie, for not having a quitting attitude as well as being their best player.

Trade Deadline Acquisitions: Complexiti, Guesshoo1, EdgeXQ1, JChristie, RedRanger10, Blackfire1, PghFanatic (and probably more, too much to look through)

This team dating back to week 2 had some serious heart issues where majority of players

were not willing to grind out W’s for Cuban which forced the GM to make some serious trades. The trades ended up not working out as well turning this club into a firesale. El Rookie has been crucial in keeping this team from FFing the season and hats off to him for being a champ and a good sport about it all and playing his games. In other news the Flyers grabbed a FF win against Montreal in last game of the week to snap a 19-game losing streak.

WESTERN CONFERENCE

  1. San Jose Sharks.

Last Week Rank: 1.

Overall Record: 27-3-0.

Weekly Record: 9-0-0 (W14).

Strength: Offense (158 goals for, the most in the league).

Weakness: *file not found*.

MVP: Randymarsh2012 (4.4 PPG on offense in 20 GP, 2.1 PPG on defense in 7 GP).

Trade Deadline Acquisitions: John_Dean_16, Mrlolchico13.

These San Jose Sharks may go down as one of the greatest SPNHL teams of all time; they have assembled one of the dangerous forward lines in the league with the addition of John_Dean to Hughsy28- and Bartlett-67, who leads the league in assists with 74. Hughsy could switch with Randymarsh2012, who becomes one of this team’s greatest assets with production on offense and defense, and both players could pair well on the right side with Norris candidate NoScxpe96. Letting go of skillz to pick up Mrlolchico will either be a championship winning or championship losing move, in my opinion. Chico is a great goalie, but skillz was killing it for San Jose. Nontheless, don’t expect anything less than continued dominance from the Sharks.

  1. Edmonton Oilers.

Last Week Rank: 3.

Overall Record: 16-11-3.

Weekly Record: 6-2-1 (W2).

Strength: Offense (104 goals for, 4th most in the league)

Weakness: Penalty Kill (73%, 5th worst in the league).

MVP: XxGrahame_47xX (Just under a 3 GAA, he has a goal!?)

Trade Deadline Acquisitions: Semple19.

So, acquiring my good friend Semple19 gives this team a BANANAS roster, one that I have a difficult time constructing a top 6 out of because there are just too many options. Edmonton got 13 out of 18 points this past week, only losing one game in overtime while having to forfeit the other two. This team has a royal flush when it comes to forwards they could build a line out of: Ande91-, BejimoSzn, Semple19, Sniiiider, and the team’s leading scorer in xBeanzy- (16 goals and 30 assists in 14 games) could all be paired together and punish teams offensively. Meanwhile, uStooPiiD and SomeoneStopMePls are a dynamic offensive defender pairing who compliment this team’s electric offense (Coffey-lidstrom has been quite reliable for this team, but isn’t their nuclear option). Meanwhile, XxGrahame_47xX has been quietly making a case for himself in the Vezina race, winning 14 of his 22 games, a .754 SV%, and a goal! The Oilers came back with a vengeance this week, and look to continue their winning ways.

  1. Vegas Golden Knights.

Last Week Rank: 4.

Overall Record: 10-17-3.

Weekly Record: 4-4-1 (W3).

Strength: Defense & Goaltending Depth (shock, Devon, skillz, Vision, shepxrd, and thafosix are all reliable options).

Weakness: Offense & Powerplay (78 goals for, 3rd last in the league, and a league worst 15.1 powerplay conversion rate).

MVP: ThaFoSix (there from the start, 20 GP, 139 hits!).

Trade Deadline Acquisitions: wheelchairdevon8, Ferdaboiss69, Lxppy–, Itsjustskillzz_, and xshepxrd.

Once again, Vegas did a massive roster overhaul this week, acquiring all of the above mentioned names. Now, before Friday, the team had only gone 1-4-1 throughout the week, but they went undefeated to close out the week (and took care of us a few times). Shock_r continues to play fantasy hockey (well, I guess we all are) and shuffles his lineup on a weekly basis, but has built a solid goaltender rotation in himself, Wheelchairdevon8, and Itsjustskillzz_, the latter still a Vezina frontrunner. Meanwhile, getting xshepxrd probably brought a tear to ThaFoSix’s eyes, who finally got some more consistent defensive help aside from vVxsion. Ferdaboiss69 and Lxppy– were excellent over in San Jose, and will hopefully be able to give Sauc—y and the Golden Knights the offensive boost they are in desperate need of.

  1. Seattle Kraken.

Last Week Rank: 2.

Overall Record: 12-16-2.

Weekly Record: 3-5-1 (L3).

Strength: Heart (Stealing one from Randall here; these guys don’t give up).

Weakness: Offense (79 goals for, 4th last in the league).

MVP: FreezeMothaSucka (24 goals in 22 games for the offensively starved Kraken).

Trade Deadline Acquisitions: Damorien.

I have no idea who Damorien is, but in 5 games for Seattle he was a -5, so he may not be making the greatest impact. With how Seattle has been playing, a big change may not be necessary, but they need to start putting pucks in the net. FreezeMothaSucka and Spelliscy_21 can’t be the only guys burying pucks for them. NowYoDead continues to have a great season on defense, proving the naysayers wrong with 5 goals and 18 assists in 17 games, while Teamrun420 continues to be a stable, reliable option alongside him. iearntofly is keeping the ship afloat, and Blade0Muffin continues to backstop the Kraken; he may need some more goal support and puck control from the Kraken to reduce their goal differential and get back into the positive column this week.

  1. Colorado Avalanche.

Last Week Rank: 5.

Overall Record: 8-19-3.

Weekly Record: 2-6-1 (L4).

Strength: *file not found*.

Weakness: Special Teams (19.6% powerplay conversion rate (2nd last in the league) and 57.1% penalty kill).

MVP: cpenn4204 (his 17 goals lead the team after Thomas’ departure).

Trade Deadline Acquisitions: iZinczyi and zerczylol.

While I believe the trade was fair talent wise, I’m not sure why SA_Pliskin would move SelkeTommygoat and benji_frank_100, but the reward in iZinczyi and zerczylol is quite the bountiful one; they could pair well on a top line with PistolPete7788 (the best forward option I can see that doesn’t have C refused). Meanwhile, the team’s leading scorer in cpenn will need to slot back with Pliskin and give some support to FxtDino- and xRichter35.

Wait, they’re still struggling to get availability, finished last week 0-4, and didn’t get another goalie or defender and solve Pliskin’s identity crisis between being a defender and a goalie? Well, better luck next season! Unless the Zinc and Zerc duo can carry this team into the playoffs, Pliskin better start thinking about October.

So, the dust has settled on the trade deadline, and like we discussed earlier, some teams have gotten significantly better while some have nearly fallen off the planet entirely (sorry Cuban!). We’ve got 15 games left in the schedule, and with rosters finalized, now is the time to figure it out; figure out your top forward line, your starting defense pairing, and your goaltending situation. Then, figure out the type of game that you play: are you a trapping team? A run-and-gun offense team? A cycle team? Get your starting line set, get your game plan set, and get ready for playoffs. Well, all but two teams. Better luck next time!

The Gutless One has done a great job on the Eastern conference these past two weeks, hasn’t he? A big thank you goes out to him once again, and for reminding me that we were doing this thing again (I had a bunch of concerts this past week, it was a lot of fun). Shoutout to him, Cuban1616, and SA_Pliskin over on the SPNHL podcast for all their hard work, kind words, and excellent choice in introduction music. Lastly, shoutout to you for reading this! Yeah you! If you got to the end of this mess, thank you!

Good luck to everybody this upcoming week!
